What Phone Do You Recommend? Blackberry to expensive.

I currently have a Family Plan, two phones. A regular phone with no extra features and my Blackberry Pearl. My monthly bill is $130. I want to reduce it. The obvious thing that has to go is the $49 Blackberry data plan that includes also 1500 Text/MMS messages.
But I know that If i remove that plan from my Blackberry I can't do MMS message without the data plan. I can do Text with a side plan.

I was looking to just get rid of the phone and get a new phone. hopefully a free one or low price. My most important feature that i want is Text Messaging and I just love how easy it is to type with the Blackberry. Anyone recommend another phone that has easy typing?

There are not many options. Using a non-qwerty keyboard will take some getting used to, but many have mastered it quite well.

I didnt see them online anymore, but didnt ATT have some phone that open up and have full keyboards?

almost all phones now have text capabilities, so that is not a problem.

in fact, you may be hard pressed to find one without.

usually pda's or blackberries are the best to text with because of the qwerty keypads, but other phones (such as the older Nokia 9300) has flip open keypads for text capabilites.

if the qwerty keypad is not needed, then even some of the cheapest phones will suit you needs quite well.

yeah im looking for something that has qwerty or at least shares keys like the blackberry.
Nokia was the one with the flip up keyboard. let me see if they still sell it.

I just can't afford the BB data plan anymore.

at&t has phased it out, but ebay will probably have many of them.

Here is a link to the available devices the have the features you are looking for. As you can see NONE are free or low price. The Pantech Duo looks interesting.

If you aren't needing to sign a new contract in order to obtain an equipment discount, you might check out e-bay for a Nokia 6820. I love mine - it's perfect for messaging.

Just make certain you look for a 6820b - you need one with both the 850/1900 mhz bands to work well with at&t's service, they did come in a European model as well.

thanks for the link. I used to have a Treo 650, but it was too big. had it for over a year. blackberry now for over a year. I think i'll have to learn how to text on a normal cell phone.
I just have to be realistic and cut down on bills.

If you really want to save money just keep the BB and drop the data plan. Add a text plan and you are good to go. Do you really need any data plan at all? If you are trying to save money try living without it.

You can still send/receive SMS text messages on a BB device without a data plan. You will not be able to send/receive MMS text message w/o. So if MMS is not a must for you, you could keep your Pearl and just discontinue the BB Data paln and use a Text only plan.

I would, but according to the blackberry forums i cant do MMS messages because that uses the data plan. I need both regular text and MMS. Last month i did 900 messages

What about the LG F9100 Slider? is that a good phone? I'm seeing it on ebay for $50 used?

any other slider phones that you recommend?

Checked out a few phones at ATT store. But I found out that i dont qualify for upgrade until next year so I have to pay full price for phones.
I'll check out ebay.

For now going to remove BB Data plan and just do regular Texts on the blackberry no MMS.
I turn off the data feature as a test and I saw how MMS don't work with that off.
