I am just wondering if the servers will crash when everyone trys to download the update the minute it becomes available....

What's with all the attention focused on Sentry and the other mods of the forum?  Do you all really believe that they have any information specific to when the WM6 update will be released?  Maybe, just maybe, they're working on the actual ROM programming as their full time job, and come here on their smoke and coffee breaks to moderate the forums!  [sarcasm]

I've been monitoring the forum since the first post of the previous 100 page thread; and have refrained from posting because it's not going to change anything.  The update will come out when it comes out.  Calling the BBB, AT&T execs, or visiting your priest or minister isn't going to change it.

The thread with over 1000 posts was called WM6 Update for BlackJack and was on the Samsung Forum -> Link

The new WM6 discussion has been on several phone boards and Sentry brought it here to contain it to one thread so it would be easier to monitor.  Sentry left a floated thread on the AT&T/Cingular (HTC) board called WM6 and started a thread on the Samsung Forum called "Windows Mobile 6 on the BlackJack".  I've been posting links to this thread when ever I close a WM6 thread. Sorry you think we are trying to hide it, we aren't. 

Please know that the moderators want nothing more than to see the official rom released, it would make our jobs so much easier.

I believe that you or another moderator should go ahead and pin a thread that links to this thread at the top of the Samsung, HTC, and Palm boards titled something like "Windows Mobile 6 Discussion" so that forum members will be able to find this thread easily and make it easier on you, the moderators so that people stop trying to make WM6-related threads on the different device-support boards.

AT&T did in fact release information stating that a certain update (I have chosen not mention the name of the update out of fear of receiving a "ticket to Banville" as it was cleverly stated) would be available in the third quarter of 2007, which has come and gone without the update or news regarding the update being released.  Any unofficial information by anyone, including the moderators, CSR's, or any other employee, simply cannot be relied upon and thus is deemed rumorous.  And I can certainly understand why AT&T may not want to publish an actual release date, seeing as how many dates that have been floated from unoffical sources within the corporation have come and passed with nothing to show for it.

But let's be realistic, AT&T needs to issue official information regarding the update seeing as how they promised that the update would be available in the third quarter.  By not releasing updated information, AT&T has simply left their "customers" to wonder, and the pessimistic amongst us having a field day with it.  It does not make good business sense to proceed in this manner.  At this point, any information, is better than none.

As far as the unnamed update goes, I don't really care if doesn't come until next year- I want it to actually fix some issues that I have with the current version.  It really doesn't do me any good to have the update if it is not stable or doesn't work correctly.

AT&T's handling of the situation has left me to wonder whether I wish to continue doing business with them.  I purchased my BlackJack in July with the understanding that an update would come along within the following two months.  If it weren't for a contractual obligation, I would probably move on to another carrier, which I may do anyway.  While I'm waiting for some news to flow from AT&T, I'm going to be exploring other alternatives...

Yea thats pretty crazy i posted the same thing bout a week ago and everyone was posting saying that o thats fake and they've just pasted  WM6 on the blackjack . But that was on the old form and people there just wanted something to argue about im kinda glad it was closed down it made people reliaze what the whole form should have been

I assume the "unname upadate" is an Update to Windows Mobile 6, which as the name of this board implies, is ok to speak about here.  Everyone should just be patient until sometime in November.  As I've stated time and time again(in the "other" discussion, lol) That November should seem like an Early Christmas for us all.   Believe me or not, it's up to you.  I do agree that AT&T could've handled this particular situation better, however, what's done is done.  Stop trying to change the world and deal with what you can.  If you move to another carrier, well, good luck with that.  You may get OS upgrades sooner, but that's about all I can say good of any of the other carriers.

And thank you for opening this discussion, Sentry.  We all certainly appreciate what you do here(at least I hope we all do)!

I think that what most people are missing here is the fact that AT&T doesn't even know when they will have the update out. They aren't disclosing any info because they don't have any to disclose.  They aren't going to make announcement unless they know full well that they can commit to it. I'll use an earlier example. It's like your girlfriend calling you up on the phone and asking you to come over on Oct. 30 at 7pm and you agree to it but aren't sure you actully can make it. (but you don't actully tell her that) Then when the 30th finally comes and its 6:58 you make a call saying you can't make it and something came up. Now she'll either be angry or break up with you. Same thing goes for AT&T if they commit to a date and now all of the sudden they get held up with some complication now they have to tell all the people who were eagerly awaiting the ROM update that they can't make the date. I know many would be angered by this me included so in order to not have people become angered because they couldn't make a date they just won't disclose anything until they know for sure that they are almost ready to release. Now I know they won't wait till the last minute to tell you that they ran into a problem but they do want to refrain from having to tell you that they couldn't make the date as much as they can.

I wouldn't be as upset about the delay if I had not bought the 8525 based on the Q3 2007 availability on AT&T's web site.  So, instead of having a Tilt w/WM6, I'm sitting on my hands waiting.

This seems indicitive of the confusion and general lack of communication inherent in the company. No one can get, or is willing to give a straight answer about what the delays are, when it will come out, and why no official word has been given. Even a 'Hey, sorry for the delay, we're working on it' would go a long ways to appeasing the customers. It's hard to even look at Oct 30th as a real date. Especially when they can't train their CSRs correctly (wrong data plans are STILL being offered in COR stores).

You could save yourself the trouble (but not cash) and upgrade to the Tilt or Blackjack 2. But seeing the nature of how this update has gone, can you really expect 6.1 to be offered in a reasonable amount of time? Microsoft expects Feb-May of next year for 6.1. Does that mean we *might* get it in 2009?

Reread the post... I'd just assume wait until it fixed right: I'm not whining for the update to be released now.  If that means next year, so be it. I'm merely suggesting that AT&T review their publicity practices.

The world?  Hardly.  I doubt the world leaders really care about any of my problems.  However, I'm going to make the assumption that AT&T cares, at least in part, about customer satisfaction.  I certainly want them to know how I feel about about their lack of information on the subject.  If their customers don't comment, they can only assume that things are going right.

Reread the post... Moving to another carrier actually has nothing to do with the OS updates.  In fact, this happens to the first device I've owned that I can actually upgrade (and for free to boot!)- All of the rest have required new hardware purchases.

If I do indeed decide to move to a new carrier, the decision will have much more to do with customer service.  I believe that customer service is priority one, and doing what you say is a big part of that.  So, if something unforeseen comes up that makes you unable to do what you say, then own up to it and correct it.  AT&T has not done that here.  A date was given, which has come to pass.  Has any official word come out since the original release?  No.  Why not?  Only AT&T can answer...

I hope upgrading to WM6 will help my wireless problem. My laptop stays connected and my phone (8525) does not. I'm about 6 feet away from my wireless router. I bought this phone thinking WM6 would be either already installed or at least availible for installation and I was diappointed when it was not.

Maybe the AT&T Release is not far behind.

Well as you are the second or third to report this, I guess that it can only be seen as a positive sign that the update is still on its way and may be sooner than the very end of the year - hopefully we get the update before Thanksgiving at this pace.

One thing I forgot to mention from my conversation with ATT HQ. The person that I spoke with indicated that unfortunately, they would not be making any official announcements regarding the release of any upgrades, until the upgrade happens. While this is not the kind of response many of us has hoped for, at least we can stop speculating about them coompletely changing policy and giving information before the release date. We'll see it when we see it. Last check was 10/30 for 8525 and 10/31 (with a potential delay of a few days) for the BJ.

They wont. It will be posted on the website with no prior announcement. This was according to what the gent from HQ told me in phone conversation on Friday.

Reread the post... Moving to another carrier actually has nothing to do with the OS updates.  In fact, this happens to the first device I've owned that I can actually upgrade (and for free to boot!)- All of the rest have required new hardware purchases.

I'm sure there are many of us who used our only available 2-year contract extension to upgrade to the 8525 and are unwilling or unable to fork out the cash for a full-priced Tilt.  If I had known what a debacle this would turn into, I would have waited and upgraded to the Tilt.  By posting Q3 on their web site, I'm willing to bet that AT&T lost quite a few Tilt sales opportunities to the 8525.  That may or may not have been their plan all along.

Here's another conspiracy theory for you.  Perhaps the Q3 2007 availability on the AT&T web site was designed to help sell a huge stock of 8525's at a higher price than the Tilt.  Remember, for most businesses, maximizing profits is the biggest factor in a decision.

As to the delay of the upgrade, AT&T is probably waiting X number of weeks/months for the Tilt to sell before releasing the upgrade.

All I know is that I am getting sick of waiting for wm6 update. The fact that they release tilt with mobile 6 is really upsetting me. What is odd about the tilt though is that the screen shot of the phone shows wm5. So to make this short I think the wm6 is totally available because they probably had the tilts upgraded to wm6 to make it the "new cool" phone and use wm6 as a sales pitch. We all spent a TON of money on our 8525's so the least att could do is give us some kind of an update to let us know when the upgrade will be available. They couldn't even tell us about the patch update until 4 months after HTC had it on their site.

Assuming that the sarcasm is only the part about the breaks... the only reason that we focus on the mods is that they are the employees of the companies. Anyone who posts "I called AT&T and they told me it would be available mm/dd/yyyy at hh:mm:ss", is hearsay. In theory, it would be the company employee that would really know what was going on. Also, if it really is coming out on the 30th or 31st, or even 11/02. Ok, that's less than a week away. This sort of seems like a major thing (what with all of the posts here). Don't the rest of us know when a major thing is a week away at work? (Ok, other than Enron employees, but that was a completely different situation.)

I'm just hoping that the browser will be improved. I tried navigating this forum on my phone and it was next to impossible. You'd think that the phone company would have a website that was easily viewable on their phones.

I'm off to search for a build of linux to run on my Blackjack.

Is there any way that Sentry or another moderator can open a thread, which is locked for posting, that we might subscribe to for a date of availability?  I subscribed to this thread just to get notification, but, with all of the banter and complaining, I'm getting spammed by the subscription service.  It would be nice if we could keep the posting to a minimum.
