i heard this today from 3 different people. AT&T is canceling unlimited data plans when your contract is up? i hope this is not true. i upgrade before my contract expires i sure hope not. i like my unlimited data plan. how can AT^T do this to your account? i think it should be up to the cusotmer to cancel it and not T&T when the contract is up.

. I haven't heard for sure that AT&T will follow suit, but I wouldn't be surprised.
How can they do it? Simple. When your contract is up, it's up. The terms no longer apply You aren't bound by them and neither is AT&T. Anyway, I understand that Verizon is dropping the option when you sign a new contract (e.g. get an upgrade). In that case, it's a new contract. You always have the option not to sign a new contract if you don't like the terms.

I know this is an at&t forum but this could effect a lot of at& t customers.
with Verizon's announcement today they are dropping all the unlimited
plan's even the grandfathered ones. once you change phones.
at&t may take a wait and see approach. looks like sharing data is coming
for one set price. kind of like the sharing minutes plan...
anyone have an opinon on this............

I don't want to see unlimited data go away, and hopefully this won't become a monkey see, monkey do situation.
I couldn't care less about shared data because it wouldn't affect me as an individual plan user.

Unlimited data as it stands now will go way, you can pretty much make book on that, if you have been following the verizon announcement they made a second statement - upgrading users can keep their grandfathered unlimited plans but only if they pay full retail price for the smarthphone, not the subsidized price, it appears the throttle limits stay in place.
ATT and verizon just switched positions on the unlimited data standing - att was the first to grandfather it followed by verizon and not verizon is the first to drop the grandfathering on upgrade, pretty good chance market wise that att will follow.
One quetion that still needs to be answered - at that will come in time, how many verizon users with grandfathered unlimited plans feel strongly enough to retain their unlimited plans by paying full retail price for the device.

I usually buy devices at full-price from carriers or get unlocked phones from overseas, so I wouldn't be affected in the near-future either.

we are in the minority - the majority of end users will pay the subsidized price and little more....

I have AT&T unlimited data and I really don't see the point if your not on LTE. I'm only holding onto it for the next iPhone so I get bumpred up to 5GB with LTE. I am hoping they don't follow Verizon. Now would be a perfect time for AT&T to shake its bad reputation of worst carrier. Let Verizon be the worst carrier for once.
I hoping they just leave the unlimited plan alone, as there aren't really that many of us left.
Oh and AT&T please give us the option to turn off 3G and 4G LTE on our devices!!!

suspect that att will go the way verizon did cancel the grandfathered plan, maybe with the same exception that verizon put it - pay full retail for the phone and you can keep it. General indications is that single data plans on family plans will be replaced with the much wanted shared plans

But why go on with your day? It is too much much fun worrying about this![]()
