Yup. What they should do is take away the streaming capabilities with the unlimited plan. I'd be perfect with truly unlimited web and e-mail, as that's what the plan was originally intended for.

Not sure where your getting your information but your wrong and so is your source. We received an ATT text and saw recuded transfer at under 3gb. 5 plus year customer with 4 unlimited data plans iand we have never exceeded 2 gb COMBINED in that time. The only reason we did this time is because ATT DSL crap service was down again and we had to tether to access K12 so my daughter could do school.. Hardly classified as abuse.

This is mainly for people using double to triple digits in GBs. Cell phone data plans were not meant as a replacement if a hardline. Only people to complain are those abusing it. If you use less than 10GB you more than likely have nothing to worry about

Well, the horse is out of the barn now, and it's going to be hard to get him back in!

They are throttling the service to something barely usable. You probably went over 3Gb usage for the month.

I'm in Sioux Falls, SD where AT&T bought Alltel. The transition has been problematic. A few months ago, I couldn't fathom speeds getting slower but they have improved recently. I got this '3G of data used' warning text yesterday.

Oh my... I am not worried about AT&T and everyone having to pay for someone's service., I am sorry, but that is pure bull!!
AT&T does charge 30 buck for what is really limited internet which still brings AT&T GREAT PROFITS! On top of that, AT&T has been charging their loyal customers outrangous price for text messaging. Another service that cost's the company almost nothing to provide. However, it does get AT&T pure PROFIT for the service!!
So, basically they are getting 50 bucks for text and internet and making enorgous profits.
So no need to try to convience anyone about that barn and etc!! So, matter how you spin it, no one is paying for for anyone else's service and AT&T is till making RECORD profits.
Just like the article I read the other day, it is time for a another major player to help stop the customer getting ripped off by what is basically a monopoly.

might want to look up the definitin of a monopoly before attempt to apply it to anything, the restriction is no where near anything that even vaguely resembles one.
when you claim ATT is making great profits, what ar3e you basing this assumption on, are you breaking down the various divisions, are you seperating national from international, private sector from public sector or what - just trying to understand the basis behind your claim and looking for your justification. Is it beofre taxes or after taxes? What exactly are you baseing your statement of "So, basically they are getting 50 bucks for text and internet and making enorgous profits" on - validated information or opinion?
Sorry but the major players are there already, Verizon, ATT and Sprint. T-Mobile is reeling right now, selling towers and laying off workers so it loks like they may drop from their coveted 4th tier spot. What major player are you hoping will step up and de-throne the top 3?
You have a couple of choices that you can execute, if you don;t like the choices then that is not a corporate issue but a personal one. The age of the unlimited data access is as dead as the dodo bird both in mobile and in personal home use of it. The times are changing, the usage is growing exponentially and contols are being put in place. Welcome to the brave new world

I am sorry, but you must not read anything outside this forum.
Plenty of reseach and articles on record profits, talk of their monopolies, pure profits on text plans and much more.
And yes, if these companies are allowed, they will end anything unlimited to squeeze even more profits from the customers. That is why we need more competition in this industry, to guard against these greedy and monopolistic business practices.
You predicted unlimited plans would see tighter throttling and come to an end, however, after great large numbers of customers started complaining and the truth came out what AT&tT was doing. AT&T realized they had been caught and was forced to make some changes giving us more data before throttling. I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved it when the study come out that said AT&T's "tight throttling" due to network congestion was not true. The conclusion of the study it was an attempt to force the customer to unlimited tiered plans.
I suggest you do some homework by doing some keyword searches on Google and read what is really happening.
As for the brave new world you welcomed me to. If it is based greed , corruption and fraud, I have no interest in that kind of world you are so happy to accept. I am an American and we do not do it that way. Perhaps if you were responding to someone in China, Russia, Iran that might fly, but not here.
Thank you!

After all this, has AT&T even considered that the customers on their top 5% of unlimited data usage are also their loyal customers; they have to be in order to still have the granfathered plan. Maybe they should see what other industries are doing to reward their loyal customers like Nationwide Insurance lowering their deductibles annually or United Airlines giving me UNLIMITED upgrades for being a Premier member. I'm going to Sprint.

I got throttled yesterday for the first time and the throttled speeds are fine. Perhaps AT&T adjusted the speed once they went public on the 3GB & 5GB thresholds.

you realize that you are behind the times, the top 5% condition was changed a while back to 3GB and 5GB for LTE users
Hope you enjoy sprint - although you may want to make sure you review thei fair use policy and terms of service before you sign, but then again sprints speeds are nomrally about the throughput that att verizon throttle to so you should not notice to much of a difference in your day to day speeds from throttled speeds.
You must fly a lot, your unlimited upgrades require a specific amount of air miles to take advantage of them, no air miles, no unlimited upgrade so they are throttle your unlimited upgrades, with your insurance your deducatalbe go down until you have a accident, then they sprind back up to normal AND you lose all your perks for accident free, so you end up paying more.

What speeds are you seeing? For the first 15 or so days of the month, I get about 6.0Mbps. For the second half of the month, it drops down to 0.1Mbps. You can't load a YouTube video or listen to Pandora after the throttling kicks in.
Sprint pulls a consistent 1.0Mbps in this area and Verizon can nearly double that.

So, around 10:15 PM last night, I got AT&Ts message saying I was close to reaching the 3GB limit on my unlimited plan and that my data speeds would be reduced.
Well, first thing this morning, I noticed much slower downloads when I was online. Sure enough, I checked my usage and I was at 3.085 GB for the month. I've still got 6 days left in my billing cycle.
This is CRAP!!
According to your own recording that I have to listen to, you say that "My time should be spent enjoying life, not waiting for it to catch up." And then you pull this crap?? Really??
{please keep it courteous}

they grandfathered it just like ATT, now they are the first to actually make it policy that it will be removed when you upgrade. The "I quit them" posts are flying

Well, we can expect the same thing for ATT as far as I'm concerned.
e-panel surveys I received hinted at alternative tiered plans (no grandfathering). They all copy each other eventually.

I have been with AT&T since 2000 (cingular to ATT) and have been fairly pleased with the service (not the customer service mind you) until I noticed that they were planning to throttle my unlimited data. Since their point of view is that I am getting unlimited data and therefore my moneys worth no matter the speed I propose that anyone with an unlimited data plan should shut off the wifi antenna and begin streaming nyan cat on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA5DsLzSVrk) whenever they have their phone plugged in, especially overnight. I have been able to stream up to 22gigabites over only a few days. If only a few people join with me I think we can help AT&T see that we are serious about the throttling issue and 3-6 gig over 30 days is much less drag on the network than 22gig over 5 days. I already have several friends and relatives doing the same. Post screen shots of your data use after dialing *3282# from your phone.

I'd be more likely to petition that they shut your service off entirely.

Petition all you want, buddy.
Now let's get this thread back on topic with a contest: The first person to stream 3gig or more in one day wins. There is also a contest to stream more data in one month than anyone else. Post up screenshots of data use before and after each day of streaming data.
Here is my June 6th entry. Just try and beat that!!

not going to happen, switch to sprint or a tiered data plan. Verizon is already getting rid of their grandfathered unlimited plan users, suspect att is not far behind eith implementing the same policy verizon is starting
