I was a loyal Alltel user for years, with family plan with 4 lines. Then, ATT took over. Arbitrarily. They sent us new phones (which were nowhere NEAR the quality of the old ones), and after all the phone except mine had gone off contract, the price is STILL the same. I have talked with the ATT outlet people until I am blue in the face, and to no avail. They simply don't give a rat's buttocks. I am a 57 year old man on total disability and a fixed income. Alltel had GREAT plans. But ATT says that the way to give better service is to charge more money.....Well, that's not the way it works, . I am waiting for my contract to expire, then I am taking a sledgehammer to your <CM Edit> phones, and THEN I am am going to go online and get a FREE phone from Straight Talk, pay my 45.00 a month, and be happy as a clam, because I will have the same number, same everything,
{please keep it courteous}

Were your new phones free? That would explain why you have had issues with them. Free phones are usually cheaper older models that tend to act up. If you want a top of the line phone, your gonna have to pony up the cash and buy one.
It appears you are doing it right. If you have a tight budget, then you may want to look into a prepaid service such as you are doing. Ofcourse with prepaid you have to buy your phone. Since you are not in contract they do not subsidize your phone and you pay the full price. But for the monthly cost with prepaid it is well worth it. I am myself thinking of going prepaid when my contract expires as well.
Most people dont have ATT because its "cheap". They have ATT for the newest top of the line phones, or for LTE of great 3G service.
