Ok, long story short, happened a month ago, went in to an AT&T store, wanted a phone and a tel number, new customer. I specifically told the rep that I need a a smart phone that I can unlock, cos I might be traveling overseas, work related, so I do not want to pay roaming charges, I have to unlock the phone and be able to use local carriers where ever I go, just by changing the sim card. She was very nice and helpful, she did not have the answer for me, so she went and asked a manager, came back few minutes later and said yes I could unlock overseas. So I went with th Samsung s2 skyrocket, and they had a deal on a bundle, you buy the Samsung tablet and get the phone free with of course 2year contract. So I went with it. I thought it was a good deal. And I was very much aware that when the times comes to unlock the phone before the 2 year contract expires , I will be paying the penalty. Called the support center the next day and requested what I need to do to unlock the phone, they checked the I've of the phones and said this particular phone cannot be unlocked. Perfect! So I went back to the store and told them no need to have this phone cos I cannot unlock, they told me yes u can unlock it. Went to several moms and pops shops and they all said they cannot guarantee the unlocking process. So after spending all day and driving all over the town, I decided not worth it and I had to return it to AT&T and get me an unlocked iPhone 4 s. So far I have been patient, but I ended paying a restocking fee of 10%, for a deal they gave me the wrong answers, and they new from the moment I walked into the store what I was shopping for. Am I happy with AT&T for this experience? NO. Will refer a friend to AT&T? NO. Di i lose money for their incompetent? YES. So there, off my chest...I kept the tel number.
My Device: iPhone 5 & Samsung Focus

I'm sorry that you weren't given accurate information about the ability to unlock the Galaxy S2. Some phones, while eligible for unlocking can only be unlocked after some criteria are met (have to wait 6 months or finish the contract for example). I'm not sure what the particulars are on the Galaxy though.
If you'll let me know what store you worked with, I'll make sure that they get your feedback so we can other folks from having the same experience.
