Do I have to cancel my iPhone contract before I sell it?

I have an iPhone 4s that I would like to sell, although I am still under a two year contract that expires in May of next year. If I sell it, I am going to keep my current plan. I have another at&t phone to use as a replacement. Could I simply remove the sim card from iPhone 4s and put it into the other at&t phone and it will work just fine? Also, will the iPhone 4s still be fully functional with the sim of the buyer?

you can do that, just be sure to tell anyone that you sell it to it is not eligibile for unlock and will only work on the att network
