I'm currently on a family plan with my brother and two of his friends. My brother, one of his friends and I always pay our portions of the bill on time...unfortunately friend number 2 never does leaving us with his part of the bill. We get tired of having our phones shut off and I was wondering if there was a way to shut his phone off until he pays us back for what we paid this month. Or if there was a cheap alternative to just kicking him off the plan.
***I'm well aware that it was a stupid idea to let a friend on our plan who couldn't pay, but it was my brothers account and his executive decision 
I don't know of an "easy" way for you out of this. If your brother will not take action to have the friend pay on time, then it would seem to me that you have three choices:
- Deal with your phone getting cut off.
- Someone (your brother) pay the bill in full no matter what, then deal with collecting payment from everyone.
- Get your own account.
Whoever's name is on the account, that person is ultimately responsible for the bill and will ultimately have his credit rating messed up. So if you can't get your own account, then I'd recommend that you remind your brother that ultimately he will be the one to deal with the collection agency and a messed up credit report in the future. (I'm thinking of the free credit report commercial where they guy doesn't know the GF had bad credit, so they can't find a place to live so end up in the parent's basement.) No matter what happens with the non-paying friend, your brother should be doing recommendation 2 anyway. Isn't he tired of having his phone shut off, too?
