I am with another carrier, unlimited everything, and want to come to ATT because everyone I talk to on a regular is on ATT. I already have an iPhone 4S 64gb that I purchased at Sprint. I have several questions. Can I get a plan without a contract? How can I keep my number? Does anything have to be done to the phone itself to use ATT service? It is a jailbroken iPhone.
Can I get added onto someone elses ATT account with my current number? Can someone with a grandfathered unlimited data plan add my current phone number to their plan?
Can Iphones be used without data? Data is too expensive and unpredictable I would like to disable it altogether and only use the phone for voice and text.

first - the Sprint Iphone will not work with att, it is a diferent wireless technology - Sprint is CDMA, ATT is GSM. That pretty much shuts things down to start with, you will be required to obtain a different iphone to utiize ATt's serivce. As fa as data goes, yes itis required for any smartphone,no exceptiopns. The grandfather unlimited data plan is for the person that has it, it is not shareable to anyone else on the account, so if you add ot their account you choose a tiere package.
