I bought a phone while on the road because I had lost my charger and no at&t store I went to had a replacement so I was forced to buy a whole new phone just so I could have a phone while traveling. When I went to cancel the superfluous phone I was told at the first store I went to that they did not cancel phones because they were just a retailer. I was told I needed to go to a corporate store. I went to the closest corporate store the next day and was initially also told that they did not cancel phones. I persisted and also started filing because I am tired of getting the run around with these people. I wanted the phone cancelled. Period.
They called customer service and the phone was cancelled. I asked the lady on the phone if I could get a printed receipt of the deactivation and she assured me I could. The people in the store then FLAT OUT refused to give me a printed receipt claiming it was impossible. Flat out refused. I have video of the whole episode which I will upload shortly.
The manager? Of the store became fairly belligerent with me because I was taping the whole episode. He started taping me too as if everyone who goes into the store isn't on video already. Why would a corporate at&t store be unable to give a printed receipt? I am getting fairly disgusted with at&t. Every time I speak to anyone I get different information and an inexplicable run around. I wanted the superfluous phone cancelled and a printed receipt. Is that really too much to ask?

There is no such thing as printed "deactivation" receipt. They didn't "refuse", there is nothing to give. You get a receipt when you return equipment. Did you return the phone in store?

The woman on the phone told me I could get one. My issue isn't whether or not I get a receipt as much as getting different information every 5 minutes. At first the first guy even told me there was no record of the number. I had to show him the receipt I got with the original purchase before he would help me.
This is the video i took withthe manager(?) I also have video where the first guy claimed there was no record of the number I was asking about. Good thing I had the receipt for that

Just posted it. I also have the one where the first guy claimed there was no record of the number. I didn't bother uploading that but I could. I'm just annoyed.
edit...I will not be uploading that video as it also includes my personal info and that's all I need.

I'm sorry you received inaccurate information from the woman you spoke to on the phone. As drumn_bass noted, this type of receipt is not available.
I have removed the video you posted.
