I have recently been looking into getting my own phone account. I finally decided on AT&T and which phone I wanted to get. I knew that there would be a deposit as I have no credit history and was told to expect it to be between $150-300 which I can understand. Just today I went to make the order on the Sam's club website since they had the best deal I could find on the phone I am interested in. After I make the order I am informed I would have to pay a $1000 deposit. I instantly canceled the order as I cannot afford a deposit that large.
My question is will the deposit still be that much if I got to an AT&T store? I saw some other forums online where people said that trying to get the deposit lowered was useless but these were people who went through the AT&T store directly from the start. I doubt going through sam's club would have anything to do with it but I figured I'd ask. I'd really like to have my own phone account but a deposit that large is out of the question.

Security deposits can range anywhere from as low as $300 to as high as $1000 as you mentioned. Though I'm not completely positive if you will be told different, you can try stopping at a AT&T corporate store and try there as they are also able to run credit checks and can give you a straight answer.

okay i'll go to the store and see what they say. It can't hurt to try.
I was on my dad's verizon plan since i was a kid but now i need to get my own.
It really sucks being out of a phone but with my lack of credit there may not be a choice.
Everyone i have talked to said they have never heard of a deposit that high for someone with no credit, i guess i'm just extremely unlucky.
