Actually, the data costs them significantly LESS than they're charging for it... If you think rates like data and sms are charged anywhere near cost, you're insane. Want an example?

There's your problem....using 10GB of data a month isn't going to fly. And using 2GB in a week is putting you at an 8+GB threshold, which again isn't going to fly. And I think their warning that AT&T may reduce speeds should serve as notice that your speed is being reduced.

Last month I used 10gb of data. Just started my new month last week, got text saying im approaching the top 5%, two days later got a text saying im in the top 5%, may reduce speeds. That's it. A day later I can't watch youtube. I feel I've been throttled but I havent received any texts confirming this. Im only at 2gb's according to the "view data usage". I feel cheated. I have 3 weeks until this is supposed to end and im paying for unlimited data. There's gotta be a way to get reimbursement or at least not reduce the data speed so drastically. 95% don't know how I feel

Very simple
WiFi is a poor excuse to RELIEVE congestion, especially if it is their own WiFi. Not everyone lives in a city or a densely populated suburban area. I live in a rural area, and expect what I pay for every month!!

I received one of these last month at 8GB. Thank month I was outside alot and was a ecception.
ATT customer service said that if I use less data I should be fine.
This month I got a notice before reaching 4GB and reduced speeds after 4GB
Customer service has set up a unit (Specialty) just to deal with the people who are upset about this.
They are like a wall beyond which the customer is not to go.
This is rediculus
Speed: 0.010 Mbps
And I am paying for a 3G speed.
Enough ripping us off ATT!!

Yes I got the message and I am furious. I am definitely going to leave At&T now. This is absolutely the last straw. They are THIEVES.

the tiered plans can use unlimited data by paying overages and never experience reduced speed. Its about money
You have a grandfathered plan that, in ATT's opinion, have too good of a deal to be true. So if you use what has promised to you, you are a heavy user.
If you leave, they will get the door for you.
Read section 2.2 of your wireless agreement for possible solution.
I am no employee of AT&T. Thank god.

This is all about money. AT&T is in business to make a profit, pure and simple. If they wanted to address this without resorting to threats and 'pay up for more', they surely could. They are intelligent, creative folks. I use mine for business, as well as many of my friends. Funny they are all in the Top 5. I wonder exactly what this Top 5 arithmetic involves. One thing is for sure, if they can make this financially succesful, we will be seeing the Top 10 before long. I think the designation of "Smart" is no longer valid.

This is the truth. If AT&T truly cared about bandwidth congestion, they would throttle the 95% that are not power users. They are hogging the bandwidth the most with email checks, 5 minute internet usages..etc. and probably would not even notice that they are being throttled. The 5% are your cusotmers that have multiple phones, constantly upgrading, and utilizing your service the most. Not only that..throttling on the top 5% does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to prevent bandwidth congestion. This is nothing to do with bandwidth hogs..because the amount of data you use has nothing to do with bandwidth congestion. AT&T simply wants to get more money out of its unlimited subscriber...but here is the weird thing. ......
I just got an email to add unlimited data to all of my lines for $10 extra per line per month....LOL they have the audicty to ask me to give them more money to add unlimited when I don't get throttled on my lines on the 2gig plan...but do on my phones with the unlimited one.

ATT is not the only one that is in business to make a profit - ALL business are so what exactly are you trying to say, they need to sunset this plan out of existance

If this practice does NOT END,I will file a complaint with both the FCC AND THE NYSAG's office.

right in one, if they had any power to do anything about htis - they don;t since it is in your agreement, expect a commitee to have a ruling in 5 or 6 years

This is absolutely ridiculous. I am at 1711MB for the month and I got throttled, are you <edited> serious?
I have 9 days left in my bill cycle, I'm under 2GB and I got throttled? I thought the top 5% is north of 5-6GB per month?
Can someone please provide clarification as to how this is even possible? I typically used 4-5GB per month on a consistent basis, and after I got my last throttling warning cut it down to less than 2GB, and that's still not enough? What a joke. EDGE speeds are pathetic.

I have been throttled since last 2 months at 2gb of data. I use wifi at my home but i dont have wifi at my work place due to security reasons nd there is no hotspot near by so i m forced to use data (which i pay for). If someone says that u still have unlimited data thats big joke how u gonna use data at speed of 50 kbps. Att dont give u any discount when u use less data than 2 gb.
