My sister and I were on a Family Plan for 2 years until the contract was up and she left for a different carrier. Now my line is still in her name and I'd like to transfer it to mine while keeping my current plan. I understand that it'll be treated as a new account but I am still keeping my number so why can't I keep the plan? Is there anyone that can help me do the transfer keeping unlimited data? I would really like to stay with AT&T but if I can't keep the plan I currently have then its hard to find a reason to stay with them. Especially since I can get the same plan from a different carrier. Thanks.

You should be able to transfer the grandfathered plans to a new account holder as long as the phone line itself stays the same.
When I transferred billing responsibility on my at&t account I went to a corporate at&t store with the account holder. The employees will need to see your drivers liscenses to verify your identities.
The employees at the store gave me a run around saying I have to make the change by calling customer service. After staying on the phone with customer service for 20 minutes in the at&t store they told me they would have to set up my phone line using currently available plans. I hung up with customer service and explained this information to the store employees. There was only one employee out of them that knew how to do this without cancelling my grandfathered plans, and they charged me a bunch of activation fees for not doing this over the phone.
In the end it was a big hassle to transfer billing responsibility and I had put in way too much effort to find an employee that knew how to do what seems like a simple change. If you run into employees telling you that you'll have to cancel your unlimited data plan just go to another corporate store and try again. Good Luck!

If I recall correctly grandfathered fetures do not transfer when you do a tobr, it flags as a new account, you keep the number but lose the grandfathered features

I have called customer service a few times asking for anyone who can do it but no one is willing to. So I'm trying to reach out to someone on here who could possibly help.

Hi Laidback, you got real lucky and ran into someone who may have been with the company for quite a few years.
The guy that helped me out was probably somewhere in his 20's. I had the billing change made earlier this year so I assumed it would still be possible. At the same time It would make sense to tell new employees that to transfer billing responsibility you have to create a whole new account with all the newest plans, because they are almost all more expensive than ones that have been discontinued.
I wish I had watched how he made the change from behind the counter, but I didn't.

when you are doing a transfer of billing responsibility you are creating a new account - it gets a brand new account number and credit check

Yes they did a credit check and gave me a new account number, but all the same plans transferred to the new account.

if you had a grandfathered plan for anything surprised that it transfered, it is documented that they do not
