Is there anyway to tell if an incoming call was attempted during the time that my iphone was "temporarily suspended". I do know that anyone calling would have heard the message: ".... not receiving calls at this time....", so maybe there would be some kind of log for how many of these messages, if any were sent out from my phone?

Incoming calls are restricted. From the agent's point of view, it is not yet "suspended" as they can work in the account beyond taking your payment. The service is simply "interrupted" at this point. No, you will not see incoming calls. At this stage, making the payment will uninterrupt the service with no additional fee involved.
The lines is officially "suspended". The agent will be unable to work with the account, other than accepting payment. A fee will be involved in unsuspending the line. Moreover, your bill will get really "messy" with prorated charges when the line is unsuspended. Again, you will not be able to see the incoming calls.
By making payment arrangements with Sprint, all of your restrictions can be lifted. While the system Sprint uses requires the full amount to be arranged for within a short period of time, you can make that arrangement, then call in when that last payment is due and renegotiate the arrangements. The system Sprint agents use require the full amount to be arranged for, and will not allow them to do otherwise.
