Does anyone plan on getting the Aino u10a or currently have one?
I should have it in my hands on Thursday. Maybe i will do an unboxing. lol .
i have had the c905a debranded for awhile now, but ever since i changed out the housing from silver to black, the screen has had issues. i think the connection didnt get connected correctly. im too lazy to fix it(:
tell me what you like about it. i am curious how good the camera is on the aino comparably to the c905a.
i will give a report when i get it.

well the report is in. its quite a fantastic phone. remote play, unlocked, debranded. no complaints. the reports are true about only limited touch screen, but the mini opera browser supports the touch screen. i have been using that instead of the sony browser. i have yet to try the wireless media go file transfer. the remote play worked at home, but not at another wifi spot. i have always had problems w/remote play, even w/ my psp.
great design, typical sony interface in the menu system. the LED light makes photos turn a slight color of blue. it can shoot full HD still photos, and i have yet to shoot video.
the call quality is excellent, clear voices in the speaker, unlike the c905. also the external speaker is clearer than the c905.
its a fun new toy and i will be enjoying it(: if there are any questions, feel free to ask.
it works great on the AT&T 3G network as well. but i would rather use the wi-fi.

Hi, I plan on buying this phone too by the end of december.
It looks amazing and right now its cheaper than the w995.
I was wondering if you have recevied any text messages from att saying
you need a data plan of some kind when you don't have one?
since they started the imei sweeps and that the vivaz has a data plan requirement.
I know att has never had the aino but some phones they still tag with a data plan.

Although I'm not familiar with the Aino, I'm pretty sure it's not a smartphone. The Vivaz is a smartphone because it runs on Symbian, which is a smartphone OS. I'm not finding information on the Aino's OS, and that's usually very easy to find for a smartphone.
Because of the touchscreen, the phone would be a QMD. If it's correctly detected as such, then a minimum combination of messaging and data plans is required. Well, it's required regardless of the detection, but the requirement can only be enforced if it's detected. Unlimited messaging meets the requirement even without data. $15 unlimited feature phone data and the $5 200 messages plan together also meet it.

Even if at&t were able to identify the model and it's features, I don't think just because a device has a touchscreen they would deem it to be a QMD - GSMarena indicates the touchscreen has limited functionality on the Aino, and the SE website doesn't indicate it has an on-screen QWERTY (as they specifically do with the Vivaz).
I can't read at&t's mind to know for certain - but this is a prime example of why the very vague, generalized descriptions cannot be used to determine what at&t's device classification *would be* if they classified non-branded models that they have never carried. IMHO if they were going to add a feature plan requirement to a device like this, they need to publish a list of all applicable models. Afterall, if they can "classify" the model in order to add a feature plan when a user uses it and it's identified by their system, then they can also "classify" it to publish an all inclusive list for consumers to use when making their purchasing decisions. ![]()
If at&t believes that the "typical" user is too uninformed to make a distinction between a lack of 3G coverage vs. having absolutely NO coverage (at&t's "legal" argument re: 2009 Holiday season Verizon commercials), then certainly they can't possibly believe the average user is astute enough to make a distinction between the feature plan requirements for five potential phone configurations - smartphone OS vs. feature phone OS coupled with physical QWERTY, on-screen QWERTY, touchscreen w/o QWERTY, or a numeric keypad only.
Just my thoughts, of course.

If there's no on-screen keyboard (and if the phone is correctly detected and categorized), I still expect it to be considered a QMD, but I'm not certain of that.
After reading your post, I tried to think of AT&T devices with limited touchscreen functionality. There are probably others, but the only one I can think of right now is the LG Neon. The Neon is a QMD, but it also has a physical QWERTY keypad, so that doesn't really mean anything.

I don't know for certain either, but as "QMD" stands for "Quick Messaging Device", it wouldn't make sense to add the plan (imo) where a device is no different than a basic feature phone in terms of messaging.
Afterall, neither the Nokia N-75 or 6650 required the smartphone data plan and they are both S60 devices that at&t carried. But because they did not have a keyboard, they weren't considered to be smartphones by at&t.
