On a motoroal phone you can chose a ringtone, the personal ringtone will also play when they text you (instead of the general text message tone you have set). I know on the quickfire that you can set a presonal ringtone but does that ringtone pay when they text you as well???
Plz help me,

The only way to assign a ringtone and/or picture ID to a contact is to save the contact to the phone NOT the SIM card.

If the contact is saved to the SIM it will NOT use the personalized ringtone.
The personal ringtone and picture id ONLY work if the contact is saved ONLY to the phone NOT the SIM.
Hence my frustration about not being able to back up my contacts.

I just discovered how to do this.. yes, you need to have the contact saved on the phone. What you want to do is go into the address book, open the contact you want, and press edit. Scroll down, and you'll see the Ringtone option - click on that, and voila! You can choose the ringtone you want for that contact. You might be able to do the same thing w/ groups - idk since I don't have any setup up, but I imagine it would be the same.
Hope this helps!

I found the same thing to be true. If the phone number is saved to the SIM and PHONE, and you try to edit the entry saved to the PHONE to add a ringtone, it still won't work! You have to delete the other entry from the SIM card.
To the person who said they like to save all their numbers to the SIM, I do too so I only save the numbers to the PHONE of people I want to assign a ringtone to (for me that's only 5 people).

Thank you for the information, my ringtones seem to be working. However, do you know the steps for adding the picture ID (for the quickfire)? I still can't figure it out.
Edit the contact you want to add the picture ID to. Hit Options, then Add Optional Field. In the list, choose Picture, then find the picture you want to use.
