Ordered a Hotspot Elevate 4g, arrived yesterday and after a full battery charge it would not connect to any networks in San Antonio. I called ATT tech support and was on hold for almost an hour and they could not figure it out. I finally just hung up the phone. Obvious defective out of box, huge dissapointment. Pathetic product and even the so called experts on the phone could not figure it out, it's going back for a refund.

I have to agree with the comment that this is an awesome device. It fixes a lot of the issues that I had with the MiFi device. I have maxed it out with 5 devices, and worked like a charm. I don't know where the person who had the coverage issue was, but I'm in Raleigh, and have 4G coverage.

Purchased mine on-line and use in Southern California. I think it took over one hour after I called the 800 number to activate before it would connect to a network. Since then connections were flawless.... looking forward to having LTE here in So Cali, but the 4G backhaul network is averaging 4 to 5 times faster than my 3G data connection...

Got a question and was wondering if anyone can help. I have a new HTC Inspire with a 4 gig w/tethering data plan. Can I use the 4G sim from my phone in the Hotspot Elevate? I called the local AT&T store and asked, but the person told me no because it uses a micro-sim card and my sim won't fit. Can anyone varify this? I just got the phone and have almost 2 years left on contract and was told Lte will be turned on here in the northern fringe of the Detroit market by the end of the year. The Inspire is not Lte compatible but it does run an average speed of 5 Mbps/1.6 Mbps down/up here but Lte is much faster. Any info will be appreciated because I don't want to spring for the $270 no commitment price if it doesn't work.

Having a heck of a time posting from my phone, but my elevate has been anything but consistent. I was all excited by the great reviews until I got home and tried it out. It says I have a 4g connection and that my laptop is connected, but I can't access the internet. When I called support, they didn't comprehend what I was saying and eventually said I must have a defective one. Go return it. So I did and am having the same frustrating issues. I kept hoping it would work and missed my return window. Now im stuck with a contract on a bunk device. Regretting the purchase every painful evening I sit down to TRY to do my homework. Reset. Restart. Remove the sim. Restart my browser... Repeat endlessly.
My theory is that the only people who have given this device so much praise, must have access to the internet long enough to do it. If you got a "defect" like me, its hard to let others know.

I too have had problems with the ATT Hotspot but after sim card replacement things improved. Connectivity is still slow but there are no other options where we are located. I miss my dsl.
Good Luck

I had the same trouble out of the box. I ordered it online and received it via FedEx.
I connected to the Elevate 4Gwith my laptop, but it could not find any network. Called Tech Support and they activated the sim card. It has worked flawlessly since activation!

I picked my Elevate 4G up at an AT&T store.
Upon trying to connect it said "Connected. Network - None".
Turns out the SIM card was mis-seated.
After removing and reseating it, it worked right away.
The SIM card hold-down is quite finicky and takes a sure hand to work.

I took it back to the store and they gave me a new SIM card. It now connects, but I don't get any more than about 3 Mbps and often slower. Is it AT&T's network, their backplane, a crummy device or some combination of all three?
One of the reasons I bought the Elevate was a Youtube video showing a 22 Mbps connection being benchmarked on it.

I've had my Elevate about 3 months now and I'm getting more and more frustrated with it. The first month it worked fine with no dropped connections at all. The second month it would happen occasionally. Now it happens all the time!! I've lost lots of data because the connection would drop, then the browser would freeze and my work would be gone.
I feel as if I've been duped. The first month they lulled me into thinking I would have successful internet connectivity (I live south of San Antonio, TX in the country) then hit me with all these outages. I'm not sure what my options are now, but I'm dreading working with ATT customer service.

I bought this att elevate hotspot 4g Friday. Sat it used over 1g. this morning it used over 1g just in the morning. 3 hours is all the battery lasts and then I have to unplug to recharge. this is what the tech support lady told me. if it is plugged in while using ... it discharges anyway and does not charge while in use .. even if plugged in. both days it used data a lot slower than in the morning. 0.18g for 3 hours in evening and 1.2g for 3 hours in morning. will only be good for 4 days at this rate.
