HTC Vivid to a Samsung SGH-E316 'Wrong Card'?

I bought a Samsung SGH-E316 GSM Dual-band AT&T Wireless on eBay (the phone did not come with anything, no box, no charger, nothing). My phone that I had was an HTC Vivid AT&T. When I tried putting my AT&T sim card in the E316 it said 'wrong card'. What is wrong with it? Do I need a new sim card to work with the E316?
PS. I know it's weird that I am basically downgrading my phone, but the Vivid is always going through my data like it's nothing and I simply can't pay for the phone bill. I don't even use the internet or apps, Just text and talk. I wanted to get cheaper phone that I can afford.
