Keeping the "light" or screen on for longer than 5 seconds!

I have a Nokia 6665 model. When I have the phone open, of course the screen shows up. How can I make it so it is always on when the phone is open?

Does this make any sense?

For instance, if I am texting and have to pause for a second the screen will go off and then I push the main button to bring it back up-this just sends a unfinished message.

I am tired of having to constantly hit the button to bring my screen back up during any application.

Are you talking about the Nokia 6555? If so, there is no option to adjust the length of time the backlight stays lit.
