MiFi 2372 Battery problems

I've had my MiFi 2372 a little over a year now, and the battery is now giving very short life - usually under an hour (and it charges in about 20 minutes). At least it still takes a small charge.

I went and found replacement Novatel batteries online, and i've tried 3 different ones that are supposed to be the proper battery for the 2372. They look identical to the original, slightly different part numbers, but same voltage, capacity, and identical shape and pins. However, each battery when put into the mifi makes the light come on red. They also don't appear to take a charge either. the batteries appear to work until they finally run out of juice and will not charge. And while in use, theatt.mifi status page thinks the batter is charging when the charger is not connected.

So do I have a bad MiFi? Are these batteries that are advertised for the 2372 not really for it, and there is some mystical battery out there that I cannot find? I'm open to suggestions at this point.
