PC Studio Manager for Impression won't install

I'm having problems getting PC Studio Manager to install on a Vista 64 bit machine. I'm launching the executable as administrator, it extracts a few files, gets to preparing to install and stops. A popup indicates "1628: Failed to complete installation". I googled the code and it's an error from Windows Installer, indicating that the install aborted. I tracked down an older version of the app, but it won't find my phone. It did install though, bit of a minor triumph... I tried to install the latest USB drivers on that install and I get the same error code. I can access the SD card in mass storage mode, so it appears the hardware is working. I just can't get the application to install.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure this application supports Vista 64 bit? Not every application does.I bet if you tried installing it on a 32 bit machine, this would not happen.

That's because Samsung writes with the same caring detail to attention as they make firmware updates.

That is, they don't do it very well.

First off, New PC Studio IB8 doesn't install properly on either Vista 64 bit nor Windows 7 64 bit. Don't expect an update to fix it. I've installed 3 versions including PC Studio 3, and none of them install 100% correctly. Version 5, for the Eternity, at least supports Outlook and Contact functions and syncs properly. I recommend using that version and ignoring the software for the Impression. Samsung certainly has.

I had the same problem and found it would come up with the 1628 every time I tried to install Samsung New Pc Studio but after right-clicking my Kaspersky tray icon and choosing "pause protection" for 1 hour then I was able to do the installation. Rather than blame Samsung, ATT, or my mother, I tend to believe that most companies would like you to continue to use their products so I tend to lean toward the idea that someone tested this product in multiple configurations and it worked fine, so it must be something in my configuration. Simple mind, simple solution.

For the OP, the newest version of New PC Studio is the version for the Solstice. That has no install problems on a 64 bit system and supports the same features of the Eternity version (which were missing from the Impression version).

Wow, never even occurred to me to disable Kepersky. Kinda' coincidental, at that. I guess I've gotten a little used to having program issues wth 64-bit vista.

After all this, the app doesn't appear to give me what I'm really after, the ability to edit/save my contacts. Maybe I need to poke around some more.

yes!  this version of pc studio allows me to sync my contacts with outlook (i tried versions 3 & 5, per your suggestion(s), and never got them to work correctly).  thanks very, very much.  (8

I too have the Impression and am running PC Studio for the Eternity - works well except for txting issues.  With phone connected to laptop (running vista) or a desktop running XP when a message comes in I can view it on the PC/Laptop and reply to it but it continues to show unread on the phone and the message alert continues to go off...the other problem I have is it also will not let me delete messages from the phone?  Previous phone/pc studio this was a function I used a lot.  Am I doing something incorrectly?  Any insight would be GREATLY Appreciated!

Hi Ellen.

Try the new version that I linked. (The version for the Solstice). That seems to be a more seemless match with the Impression. I can confirm that it will delete messages on the phone.

As for the other issue, if that continues first just try power cycling your phone to see if it goes away. If it still continues, you have to give ATT a call and they can look into it on their end. I've had a similar issue lately with voicemails displaying as 'new' and there's nothing there.

Phoohey!!  Software for Solstice...same result - won't delete from phone...I can view and reply but the status on the phone does not change...when I  delete a message it just deletes from the software - not the phone  - And once I read it on pc still shows  new message on the phone?!?!

Sometimes firewalls and anti-virus programs might interfere. You may want to try to disable them and try again.

Very strange...with my old phone and previous version (3.1?) I could see ALL and manage all...now it's new and IMPROVED?!?!... (change? sometimes Not good)  I hope they make message manager software that is compatible with the Impression because I actually Love the phone - just miss the little managing bits...

Are y'all having a problem getting the program to stay open? I have installed it, or at least it appears that way, then I try to open the program and it won't stay open. 

Is this a normal problem?

I am going to try the link someone suggested earlier in this thread.

This is for a Samsung Strive SHG-A687.
