Pantech Laser problem

My Son has a Pantech Laser, and when he has text messages on his phone that are longer than the 160 char limit, which makes them multi-part text messages, and he tries to load them into the PC Suite, the load fails and the phone reboots. The only solution is to delete the long text messages from the phone. After that, the messages load fine.

Is there an update to the phone's firmware that will fix this? It is really annoying!
