W760 Pricing

Has anyone heard any "insider" news of a price drop for the W760 anytime soon?  In stores it's $159, online $129 (after rebates).  Didn't know if there was any chatter of it coming down in the next few weeks heading into holiday shopping season...

As of yesterday, I am a new AT&T wireless customer. I picked up an iphone for myself, and the Sony Ericsson w760a for the wife. I had high hopes for this phone. I'll post my initial thoughts about that on the other relevant thread.

As for the price, Im not sure I got the deal that I should have.

In an actual AT&T store, the phone is marked at $169.99 as a "bundle price", after $50 rebate. That includes the phone, case, and car charger. However, the catch is they wont give you this price unless you also add the unlimited data plan, or text plan. In other words, you have to add some additional features to make it worth their while to give you the $169 price (129 after rebate, plus 20 bucks each for the 2 accessories). The phone is listed as 129 on the AT&T website after rebate, and AT&T is selling the phone for 159 without any rebates through their hotline number.

Since my wife isnt a texter, and didnt want the data plan (she loved all the other features), we got the phone for $229 with a $50 rebate = $179. Then paid $40 for the case and car charger.

$179 sounds like I lost $50 after seeing almost everyone paying 129!!

Our AT&T rep did waive the activation fee on both the iphone and the w760a.

Should I be upset? Should I still argue that the phone should have only been 129?

After I get my $50 rebate, I'll have received it for $109 because I'm signed up with my work's business account. That's what it's going for thru Premier Services.

The 'deal' I posted above is actually through Business Services as well. But since the rep didnt have the phone, we had to go to the store to handle the deal. They were aware that we were still working through the rep tho. We are getting the corporate discount on the monthly rates.

But after seeing the price youre getting, Im even more annoyed.

While I agree that it's a sham to have a different price in-store, that's almost always been AT&T's practice.  I've talked to store managers already and they confirm that the online price and the in-store price are two different things.  I went to a store a few days ago to get a hands on look at the 760 and talked to the manager there and noted the price difference.  He said that if it's available online cheaper, it's best to buy online since stores are given little if any leeway in their ability to price match.

I ordered it online on the 4th and received it on the 5th. But I also live in SE Texas and the phone was mailed from DFW area. If I were you I'd be pretty upset regarding the price. Any way to return it and just order it online??

I was told by ATT that once you use your upgrade, you do not get another one.  Meaning that if you get a new phone and return it, you are no longer qualified for an upgrade price and you have to pay the full 'no commitment' price.

There might be a temptation to go to Radio Shack for, say, the Samsung Epix.  It is $129.00 with an upgrade and 2 year renewal.  ATT charges $299.00 for the same phone online with a $100 rebate contingent on the purchase of a $30 pda data plan.

This practice has always annoyed me. Makes me second guess when I want to make a purchase. I was online and can get the 580 for 0.00  or the 760 for $109 (premier, without a rebate)+18 .

At the store it was (I think) $50 for the 580 and $159 (AFTER rebate) for the 760.... ONLY after upgrading to a data or text plan (which I rarely use)

WHY does it have to be complicated?

Give me the phone at a reasonable cost and be done with it. WHY do we have to jump through hoops?

When I am in the store.. I WANT to buy it from there, as they helped me...but can't get myself to, as I can save like $50 buying it online. Why would anyone buy from a store?

Not true. I purchased the LG Shine a few months ago using my upgrade. I didn't like it and I returned it. Customer Service told me they'd reset my "upgrade" option for me but didn't so I had to call back a few days later and have them fix it. I was able to purchase my w760a using my upgrade option.

WalMart has it for $28.88 w/ a 2 year extension if you are eligible for upgrade. 1 year extension is $58.88. Just got one for my wife. $31 and some change out the door. Bought an 8gb M2 card from Amazon, and she's rockin' and rollin'. Just need to get a headset for her.

Amazon won't let you upgrade if you're on a Family plan, which I am, so Wal-Mart was the next best option. I didn't have to do anything with my plan to upgrade via Wal-Mart in store. Online they use Letstalk.com, which seems to require a plan change.

However, at&t will not allow rebates for purchases made in Wal-Mart if they do have a rebate for the device.
