Every time I get a new phone, I explain that I live on the fringe of the service area and need a phone with strong reception, so of course they always give me a phone from the loser phones we're trying to unload shelf. I'm tired of having to drape myself in tinfoil and point to the north star to make calls. So I ask here, what works best in sasquatch country. I've heard that Nokias are better for this, truth or myth? What else? I'm all ears.

Yes Nokia's are some of the best phones for reception. Most are pretty sturdy and reasonably priced as well. What they may lack in features, they make up in reception and reliability.

Tundra is the bomb for getting a signal.
Plenty of complaints about it, though I haven't had those problems with mine; but all rave about the reception.

in my experience, Nokia and Motorola generally have the best reception. Pantech, LG, and Samsung have the worst. Also expeereiment with holding the phone. Frequently, your hand can block the signal. Many cases will also make reception worse.

Nokias are the best when talking about reception. Nuff said.

Dang! They're making bag phones again! I remember you could just about cook your lunch with the output from the old ones.

I thought they went extinct during the analog to digital transition. Most likely my next phone will be a Nokia, but I'll maybe keep an eye out for a good deal on the M900 as an emergency boondocks unit. (def. boondocks: an area starting about 1 mile from my house) Gotta admit, I'd get a laugh out of the look on kid's faces if I used the M900 walking down the street in the city.

Motorola Tundra is the phone with the best reception I've ever seen....period. Yes, it's ugly, but nothing I or anyone I know have had a phone that comes close to the Tundra with regard to reception. My friend has a cabin deep in the woods, and with her two prior phones, she had to walk 300 yards up a hill to even get two bars to make or receive calls. Now she can stand on the porch and call at will. She was recently deep within the depths of the ER of a rather large hospital, and had five bars while everyone else with a cell device had to go out to the lobby to get just a minimal signal. I don't text or go online from my phone, and the only things really important to me are call quality and reception. The Tundra exceeds anything I've had on both counts. I tried to get one myself, but sadly, none of the AT&T stores around me have any in stock, and they're out of stock on the site. The rep at the last store I called suggested checking E-Bay, and I think that's what I'm going to do.
