Glad somebody else is seeing this problem. My wife and I noticed this today on both of our iPhones. I spent a hour on AT&T support chat, where they repeatedly told me there were no problems with cwmx.com. I played along with their "troubleshooting" until they wanted me to delete and recreate the email accounts on my phone. I tried to explain that it was highly unlikely that the email accounts on both of our phones, on the same day, had become corrupted resulting in the exact same symptoms. This of course was lost on them.

YES! Me, too... yesterday... it was my "secondary" server. Deleted it just now...and still can't send email... only receiving! So frustrating!

@JFizDaWiz: outbound.att.net requires authentication. That won't fly unless you have an AT&T email address. Any other options that you know of?

if you are using a foriegn email address (not att) you normally set the smtp and imap/pop3 servers to the provider that owns the domain name for the email.
for example - email address fish@bbaitcellphone.com
pop3 - pop3.bbaitcellphone.com
smtp - smtp.bbaitcellphone.com
Normally using different smpt / pop servers fthen the email address is relaying
If I recall correctly gmail is this way
Incoming settings
IMAP server: imap.gmail.com
Port: 993
Security type: SSL (always)
Outgoing settings
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Security type: SSL (always)

I have had an iphone for 4 years and never had an email issue until the past week. My gmail account is fine but cwmx just doesn't work/. Is there a solution/workaround for this?
Does anyone monitor this site?

Same here over 4 devices; 2 iPads and 2 iPhones. After years of no problems, just started the other day. One iPad will, sometimes, send. If this is not an ATT problem, why the sudden change? It's not coincident with an iOS upgrade, for instance. I'm in NYC and the problem is not specific to one area of town.
Since I have my own mail server, I'm wondering if AT&T has finally made a whitelist for cwmx and, if so, how do I get my domain added to it? But that also seems unlikely since the one iPad *will* work -- albeit sporadically.
What's up???

Many of us use our own mail servers in our own domains. At home or work, we can use our domains and our email over Wi-Fi. On the road, however, almost every Hotel and "hot spot" in this country, and probably around the world, denies SMPT service to "unverifiable" email providers for fear of spam. This means we have no way of sending email other than over the AT&T network. This is a vital part of the AT&T service.
Perhaps you think we should have gmail accounts which, for me, makes my contract with AT&T rather less useful than it should be and has been until now.

I know gmail works and don't need instructions BUT cwmx still doesn't work with my other email. It worked for years. Did u shut it down? Is there another server from AT&T?
this is a peer to peer forum, it has very little official interaction from att personnel, with the exception of a couple of att employees that monitor the forum everyone else is a normal user, either call into to support or check the knowledge base
According to the Whois record, unless it gets renewed in the next 8 days it seems like it is shutdown

never had that issue at any hotel that I stay at, utilze the normal access setup for all of my email accounts. Exchange, gmail, my home isp are all configured to utilize their native smtp and pop servers. Have not been seen email blocked at all.

It's nice you've never been blocked. I've never been given access for either my home domain or my work domain. Having it not be a problem for you doesn't mean it's not a problem for anybody.
Besides that, this entire thread has gone off point. The point is not why we use cwmx, it's what has changed so that we no longer can? Not why we don't use some other access or email account, but why what's worked since 2008 is no longer working. Everything else is just noise.

"and it shouldn't work over wi-fi anyway"
I'm not sure I get your point. My home and work domains are blocked by most Hotels' wi-fi, or at least disallowed, so I have to use AT&T 3G, which also can't/won't verify my domains; hence cwmx.

Actually 2004 and not 2008. DNS shows that the domain expires on the 23rd of the month and no indication of renewal, that is a pretty good indication it is being discontinued unless they renew within the next few days

"Could always use the outgoing server provided by the email provider"
Unless the provider only allows their SMTP server to be used when within their domain. It is specifically for situations like this that cwmx.com provided a workaround for.

I had the same trouble and Apple Support would not help unless I paid for an extended telephone warranty. I was able to resolve the issue by deleting my AOL account from my iPad and then reinstalling it. I hope this helps!
