Hi,
I want to take advantage of the free refurbished Bold offer, but when I called, I was told that it was for new activations only. Is there any way I can get this deal when upgrading?
Thanks

Unfortunately activation only offers are just that activation offers only, this would be due to that specific sales channel being the only purchase point for it.

AT&T's return policy has changed effective 10/07/12. You have 14 days to return the device & cxl without a ETF. Policy info HERE.

I think if you do an "add a line" and get the bold for the new line, you could do it.
But is it worth an extra $10 a month on your bill until your current contract expires? That is the question.

Unlikely anyone. The online offers are pretty specific and often very limited. Not much any rep or CS can do, if they wanted to.
When are you due for an upgrade? Maybe you can wait until then. They may have some comparable offers then. Probably not the same exact ones as now.

I actually have the option to upgrade to a free refurb bold but once logged in it's marked 'out of stock' in my upgrade options. But of course if you were to be a new customer it's convenietly available to you. I understand why they'd give more opportunities to new customers but that is a horrible way to treat customers of 5+ years. I really don't expect the refurb bold to ever be 'instock' (if it ever was) and available to me. I've thought of just letting my contract go since most carriers are the same and i can get free phones from them and on the principal of not being treated fairly. Anyone have similar thoughts/comments ?
Not all wireless providers are created equal.
If you switch, just make sure you test out the phone in all the areas that you work/live/play.
With wireless, one provider might be better than another in terms of coverage.
Consumer Reports recommends choosing wireless providers based in the following order:
- Coverage (what good is a great phone if it doesn't work where you need it to most of the time?)
- Cost of service (what good is cheap service if provider doesn't have coverage where you need it?)
- Phone (what good is a great phone, if you can't get service where you need it?)
All the same theme...Coverage needs to be the determining factor when choosing a wireless provider.
If you use the phone in a metropolitan area, most likely you'll be able to go with any provider.
Then you should choose base on the cost of services (data, voice, texting, cv, etc.).
Then choose the best phone that will take advantage of the services you plan to use.

I have the same issue. I have been with AT&T for wireless service for 6 years. I have never upgraded my phone. My contract has expired and I called to renew to take advantage of my upgrade $50 credit. I also saw the refurbished Blackberry Bold 9700 for $29.99 (free with my credit) and was told it was for new customers only! I don't know about you, but with data and messaging and everything else, we're talking about $120/month PLUS the $175/month for the U-Verse service I have........and they won't give me a refurbished phone? Being penalized for being a loyal customer doesn't seem like good business to me. May seem like a small thing, but this is really not sitting well with me and I see I'm not the only one. Looking at Verizon; if I'm going to have to pay $100 or more for a phone anyway, why not get the touch screen storm, right?
If anyone finds a way around this "new customer only" deal, please respond. I've been very satisfied up to now and would like to stay on.
