My ATT Nightmare
[ Edited ]

In 1999 I got my first ATT land line to my home in 63026 zip and was using the line for checking email, I had ATT dial up, prodigy.net address. I got a second line ran into the home so I did not tie up the land line while on line at a blazing 2kps.

In 2002 I moved to Arnold 63010 and was able to get DSL so speed was much better and I had the fastest available at that time and carried DSL until 2006 when Uverse finally made I to my neighbor’s home who lived a whopping 10 feet from my home, I inquired about Uverse but was told that I could not get it even though I had numerous calls to me about signing up, each time I said sure I want it and burned a day off of work for the technician to come to my home only to be told that I lived too far away from the switch. This happened 3 times. This cost me 3 vacation days and I only got 5 a year. The next time I said hook it up on a Saturday which was not offered before until I complained that I wished them to quit lying to me saying I could get it when I could not. Finally in 2007 ATT told me a booster was available to me and I said again sure I wanted it , they promised me 25mb speed along with phone and TV in a package for the first 12 months. At first I was very happy to have faster internet than 6mb of the DSL but soon realized that the 25mb speed never made it to my home , it was usually about 8-12 mb and I complained numerous times, numerous until after about the 10th time and 4 tech visits always being told that there was and issue with the gateway or my phone lines. I spent money getting all new copper phone wires installed through my home and still no speed above 12mb. I was very frustrated and beginning to believe that a lot of smoke was being blown up my you know what for some time now. After 12 months was over I started calling again because by this time I was being charged full price for the 25mb but still only getting 12. Final one day 2 techs showed up with all kinds of equipment and tech talk and finally they told me that I would not ever be able to get the 25mb promised to me as long as I had Uverse TV, it was explained to me that each customer got 32 allotted to them but only 25 was totally available for some other tech reason. And that the Uverse TV gobbled up 12 mb and that left 12 for the internet. Ok well that made some sense to be and I accepted it and ordered my internet down to the 12 Mbps speed so that way I would get what I paid for right?.  Well in the next 4 years I had numerous power outages and several of them lasted up to 1 week and I lost phone service each time after about 6 hours, but when ATT installed the line they explained that the battery backup would keep me from having phone line interruptions. Not the cases, more smoke up you know where. In January In 2010 I terminated the Uverse TV and went with direct TV just to see if what the Tech had explained to me was true and guess what, they had indeed told me the truth this time, I had Direct TV installed and ordered the 25 mb service restored to my Gateway and the speed immediately came up to the 25mb.This tells me that I was not told the truth when the sales person sold me the Uverse package. I Kept the Direct TV so I could have the faster service on the internet, package deals are not what they are sold to be and I learned this the hard way. I stayed like this until January of 2012, there was a loss of ATT service, Internet service so the phone went down again along with internet after about a week of phone calls and driving past the ATT crews working at the end of the street I stopped and asked them what had happened and was told don’t worry about it by one of them sitting in their truck and it would be on when it came on in a very smart way, I told him he was rude and he said I should not have asked him as he was a union worker and could not be bothered. Well I do understand that having a job is important but I had only asked a polite question as I had a wife and family at home very upset about the internet service being down for so long.  I went home and ordered a land line from ATT so I could have a phone and they told me that I cannot have a land line installed with Uverse service, I said OK and to cancel the Uverse as it did not work anyway, I unhooked the gate way like I was told to  and took off the next day because they said the appointment was from 8 am – 4:30 pm  so at 5 PM when no ATT had shown up and I had burned anther day I called them and got only a computer reply that I had a scheduled service call. Really ?  Well the next day the service tech called me and said he had been detained the day before and that he was at my home hooking me up and that I need to be there, I told him that I had no more days to waste on ATT. When I got home the phone worked. For the next 5 months I made numerous phone calls trying to get the uverse bills stopped and get a normal phone bill again I was paying 36.00 a month for 3mb somehow after the phone was reinstalled. Finally in May I found someone at ATT who got me straightened out and in June I received a 265.00 bill for phone service from January till June even though I had paid 240.00 for uverse that I had received because again Uverse is not available for land line service.

I am out 240.00

So I called Charter and they came out the next day and hooked me up with internet service 30 mb.

Now I have ATT land line, Direct TV for TV, Charter for Internet. What a Nightmare.
