I haven't figured out the business side of that. As I understand it, iPhones are heavily subsidized--so AT&T doesn't make their profit there. They make it on the monthly service. But iPhone users are notorious for using mass quantities of data, which taxes AT&T's network and requires heavy capital investment to increase capacity. So in the end, are iPhone users really that profitable? And if not, why is the iPhone given such prominence by AT&T?
