Yes, it happenned to me for weeks!  I just got my status working - but it is still pending and my order is backordered.  God knows when I'm going to get it.  AT&T is saying 10 to 21 days for getting since the order, if so, I could get mine in two more weeks.  I don't know if I can wait that long and I'm livid about it.  

some people are saying 12 hours, but others have waited longer.  Oh, man that sounds like a AT&T customer service answer.

All I can say, is boy what a feeling to have cancelled my order and having the freedom to just walk in a store or try to reserve through the Apple reservation.  It feels so much better not having to play the guessing game.  I just checked orders after me and they still say BO, makes me feel better since I cancelled knowing I did not royally mess up, but I do feel bad for those who are still stuck in that limbo.

I realize I still may not get a phone any earlier then if I just kept my pre-order, just tired of playing the game.

a complaint is a complaint and they have to address it, ratings do fall, and ratings do count.  I am not expecting anything major to happen but AT&T will have to address the complaint.  I will get in my 2 cents, and ask why change from when I got my 3GS, it was so simple and seemed to work betther, you preorder, you pay, when the release day came you walked in and picked up your order, how easy was that?

So so so so frustrated I had to post.  I, the primary account holder, preordered my phone (FIRST) and  (THEN, AFTER THAT...) my husbands phone in a store on 10/7 late afternoon in NYC.  HE now has a shipping number and I got squat.

Same exact phone ordered.  Really?  REALLY?!

I think that's reasonable..  I've never ordered something online that I couln't cancel prior to it shipping.  Seems like a very strange policy to me.

My phone got out of backorder and I thought that it would ship fairly quick like within 3 hours but it still says Pending Shipment BTW itz a white 16gb iphone 4s orderd ....When will it ship??

That's how it looked for me when I tried to check the order status for the first 9 days after the pre-order.  When it finally changed so I could see it I got the old "backordered", but the weird thing is that they changed my order date - I ordered on the 13th and have the e-mail confirmation from then, but online it says the order date was the 17th.  When I asked the customer service rep all they could tell me was that "they had to amend the order date", huh??? 

cancelled my order this afternoon!!!  WHAT A GREAT CHOICE THAT WAS!!

actually got on the Apple Store reservation site this evening at 9:01 and reserved my 32g White for pick up between 8am and 6pm.  You can bet I will be there BRIGHT AND EARLY IN THE MORNING.

Can't believe it!!!  I was having second thoughts wondering if I did the right thing, even though my gut told me no matter what happens it was the right thing for me to do.  I am soooooooo excited, can't wait till tomorrow.

The AT&T phones always go fast I've been going to the site for the past 3 nights just checking the availabitly and the AT&T are always gone in the first couple minutes. The other two companies always have phones available.

I tried cancelling my order this morning by calling 611 on my iphone 3GS like other people said they had done, but they could not help me, they said I had to go to the store because it was in progress.  I told them it has been in progress the whole time, and so what did that mean, she said it meant it was being ship to the warehouse.  Anyway I went to the store, it is just a few minutes away from me.  The store sure was a lot more friendly then they were on the 11th when I tried to cancel, butter could have melted in their mouth.

I think what that means is that they finally have an actual phone that is set for your order. Then, there will be a period of time in between that and when they actually print a shipping label to ship it to you. It's definitely a good sign and mine just changed to that late tonight, also. The period of time before the label is printed could vary, depending on what time and day it goes off of backorder. With all of the 4s orders, plus any others, you have to figure that their doing possibly thousands of orders at any given time.

So my status has said "pre-ordered" now since the 7th.  It doesn't say backorderd anywhere... But everytime I call I keep getting told it is activated in the warehouse and is awating shipment.  This doesn't sound right to me, the original email I got said it was expected to be delivered on Oct. 14.  CSRs tell me that is all the info they have for me... I don't understand how it takes nearly a month to just ship.

I would almost feel better if they said it was backorderd... Instead of this strange limbo state...

BTW I preorded on Oct 7 @ 9am

ok.  a little over 3 hours later, got my 2nd confirmation.  phones were ordered less than 10 min apart.  okthanks for listening and good luck.  i mean, can we get a free month of service at least here?  whaddya say?

forgot to add; my original pre-order was 10/7 around noon. tried to cancel on the 11th, store would not do a thing, they were very rude.

Tonight when I got through to the reservation site, I had my iPhone and my Mac going. The iPhone worked faster, (the iphone worked faster the other night also, but they only had the 16g and I wanted the 32g).

Looks like you have a premier account. Not sure why you're getting that error. I ordered my wife a 3GS through premier and it showed the way that I said. Sorry, but I don't think that I can be of any help. Maybe someone else will respond with something helpful. Best of luck!

I feel the same way. Mine came off of backorder when I checked about a half hour ago. Wasn't that way about 2 hours ago. For everybody's info, I preordered a black 16GB at about 5:30 eastern on 10/7 in store.

I'm trying not to get too excited, but I know from previous posts that getting the 0 under "qty back-ordered" is a very good sign.
