I wonder how they determine whether the iPhone is associated with a contract or not. Any iPhone exchanged by apple under warranty will technically not be the one associated with that account... Take my replacement 4S for example; it actually has the part number of unlocked iPhone 4Ss, but it's definitely locked to AT&T
