Bizarre iPhone AT&T Service Behavior (Seattle area)
I've been experiencing the most bizarre behavior with my iPhone and my AT&T service. I'll summarize:
- beginning about 2 months ago I started getting frequent "No Service" or zero bar behavior on my phone when around my neighborhood (Mill Creek/Snohomish, WA area). This would occur in the same places I'd had 4 or 5 bars before... but the phone would "snap out of it" after an hour or so.
- then about 3 weeks ago my iPhone went into the "No Service coma" for an entire week. It was also during that week that I had not been into work (Redmond, WA). As I was approaching Redmond on 148th (see the exact spot here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=redmond,wa&ie=UTF8&ll=47.677366,-122.143164&spn=0.0...) my iPhone came alive and for the entire day I was in and around that area (Microsoft campus) the phone worked perfectly -- 5 bars.
- that night on the way home, as I went home as soon as I hit that spot mapped above, the phone went back into its No Service coma.
- the next morning on the way to work, I hit the same spot again and the phone came alive again.

I've been to the AT&T store multiple times, gotten a new SIM card, and troubleshot the issues repeatedly. I put my wife's SIM (from her iPhone) in my iPhone and it doesn't exhibit the problem which would indicate it's not a hardware issue.

So my iPhone only works in this very narrow cell area around Redmond now and when it's outside of it it gets No Service. Has anyone from AT&T ever heard of such behavior?

It sure does sound like something is provisioned incorrectly on your line.   I would contact CS and convince them to let you speak with Level 2 Tech Support.
