Looks like the few people who ordered white got their right away.   BUT I don't want to change canceling and re-ordering now :smileysad:  I wish it was more like a restaurant - white, black, first available :smileyhappy:

I did a direct fulfillment order for an iPhone 3G 16GB White model on Monday July 21, 2008.  I just got verification and a tracking number that it was shipped today and will be arriving at my AT&T store tomorrow Thursday July 24, 2008.  The guy told me when I was ordering it that the whites are in less demand at least at his store, but if you wanted to order the black ones from there you could get it in a week.  The AT&T store I went to is in NYC on Lexington Avenue.  Just thought I'd mention it if anyone is still considering doing a DF and wants to know their response time.

Just to contribute.  Ordered my Black 8 Gig on Monday July 21st around noon from the store on Park Ave in New York City.  I was told that the wait could be as long as 21 days but the average was about 1 week.  The lady in front of me said her white 16 gig shipped the day after she ordered it so I guess the white ones are shipping faster.  I wonder if people who did not qualify for the upgrade would get theirs faster since they paid the higher price?  Just a thought.  I'll update when I hear something.

Spoke to the ATT store today, they had no idea why my phone order was canceled. They stated I would need to Re-order my 16G black iphone and wait the additional days (insert unknown amount here) ordered it on 7-13. They charged my card on the 13th as well. I asked them what the difference would be if I re-order it again to when it was first placed?? Would it be canceled again in 2 weeks time? They were clueless. Now I have to wait till ATT refunds my account my 3$$ bucks. ATT store on State Hill Rd. PA.
Um' yeah , I'm ticked off.

asposted earlier I order a 16G Black on the 1`7th. As of this morning my debit card has been charged so I am hoping my phone is about to ship......a guy can hope anyway.....:smileyhappy:

Spoke to customer care and was told that it was canceled due to me using a Debit card. I was told to re-order with a credit card and have my order resubmitted. I dont understand the issue, I mean they took the $ from my account and now I have to wait to get a refund then reorder??
What a PITA. Ah well , All I can say is I hope most people did not use a Debit card to order their Iphones or they might be in the same boat.

Hi guys,

Just out of curiosity, how long does it take before you can see your order status? I went to ATT store on 07/21 and pre-ordered the phone. When I checked my status today it says no order found. Is that a common thing or my order was not entered into the system properly?

Please advise.

I ordered 7/11 at 11am, I've been 5th in the queue for two days now. My card has been charged and refunded and charged again ( this is the third time ). The rep. at the store was in shock when I told him my friend received his from another store, it seems they don't want to tell anyone when they will receive theirs. I've lost all confidence in AT&T there is no reason to have such backorder problems with their distribution and supply network ( must not be fully utlilized ).

I ordered mine on 7/19 (was told 10-21 days to receive) and was able to view the order status on Monday(said in Progress), but i just checked it and now it can't find the info. I called the automated order status number 877-782-8870 and it couldn't find it either.  I talked to a rep and he said that the order system is having some "kinks."  I hope my iPhone order isn't lost forever!  I will be calling the store I ordered at to see if they can shed some light.   I wonder how Verizon would've handled this.  Maybe it's fate and I should stick with my Razr2 which I've been happy with...

I ordered an 8gb black on 7/15, the last order of the day from the roseville, mn store. I was also told 3-5 days and there are about 60 something people in front of my order. no shipment yet, I will post again, so you can get a better feel for when yours will ship.

So I have been reading this thread for days now just waiting patiently for my phones (plural). so far everything has worked the way AT&T said it would as far as the notifications and all that. I am definitely outside the 2-3 days that they told me it would take to get the phones but from what I have read i am not alone. So yesterday 1 of the 2 phones that I had ordered shipped, the 8GB fro my wife to be exact. My 16GB is still BO and as of yesterday I was #2 in the queue before they killed that option. My dilemma is that I am switching from T-Mobile and am porting 2 numbers and am planning on getting the familytalk plan (obviously). They say you have 7 days to pick your phone up but what if my 16 doesn't come in? AT&T certainly doesn't expect me to activate 1 and have 2 accounts 1 with each carrier? I do not want the billing nightmare that would ensue.
Any strategy ideas?

T-mobile will allow you to unlock your phone to travel internationally. Call them up and get the unlock code for your current phone. Go pick up your wife's iPhone and activate the Family Talk with both lines. Get a sim card (no phone purchase) for your line, and pop it in your current phone. It will then work on the AT&T network until you get your iPhone.

I ordered my 16g Black on 7/12 at 1pm.  My phone arrived on 7/22/08.  Not a bad wait overall.

Thats some real bull. I have ordered phones from at&t with  a debit card in the past and even as recent as back in june 08 and they gladly took my money.

I spoke with customer service as well because my order suddenly wasnt recognized in the system
I asked about the whole debit card thing and she told me that ordering with a debit card has nothing to do with your order being cancelled.
The only thing she said about it was that there were people who were being charged twice and/or there were problems with their personal card itself.

im pretty sure 90% of people who did a DF most likely put it on their debit/bank card as well and had no problem with it

I ordered an 8 gig yesterday around noon. The order status page doesn't seem to recognize my order number or phone number. Is the order status page down, or is it possible that my order isn't in the system yet? I also haven't received any emails from AT&T regarding the order. Any ideas?

Yeah make sure that you use the zip code from the store you bought it from.  Also sometimes your wireless number won't work so use the alternate contact number they have for you.

I ordered mine (Black 16g) on Friday 7/18 in Brooklyn, NY.  My boyfriend ordered his (Black 16g) on the same day at a store in Manhattan.  I'll keep you all posted on when they ship.

We’ve seen incredible demand for iPhone 3G since it launched—and subsequently sold out—on July 11. Many customers have opted to purchase iPhone 3G through direct fulfillment, which lets them purchase the device at their convenience and return to the store to pick it up as soon as it arrives in to the store. For those customers who have ordered through direct fulfillment, and have not yet received their iPhone 3G, here’s a quick update on our current inventory:

  • As of July 23, direct fulfillment customers are receiving their iPhone 3G, on average, 13 or 14 days following purchase.
  • Delivery times vary based on the specific model a customer chooses (8 GB, 16 GB white, 16 GB black).

AT&T handles direct fulfillment on a first-come, first-served basis, giving everyone an opportunity for stress-free shopping. As we receive new inventory from Apple, we are shipping it out immediately to fill customers’ orders. We hope to begin re-stocking our stores as soon as we can, but first priority goes to those customers who purchased through direct-fulfillment.

I ordered an 8 GB on 7/18.  Today, the backorder on the phone was changed to 0, but still no charge for the phone.  Does anyone know what FRT is?  That's still listed as backorder.  I have a "FRT" and "Phone" listed as ordered, but have no idea what the FRT is.
