U-Verse Install -- Success!

I know AT&T has a bad reputation, and I've experienced a lot of frustration with them in the past.  I want to say that my U-Verse install went without any major problems and I am happy with my service (so far).

I did have some minor (frustrating) hiccups pre-install that left me scratching my head, however.

I initially signed up for U100 + 12 mbps internet service and scheduled install for April 4th.  In discussion with my housemates, we decided to upgrade to U200 television service.  It took over 30 minutes with a very nice AT&T representative to accomplish this.  He was just as frustrated as I was, as he had to completely rebuild my order from scratch.  He went above and beyond to do what should have been a simple task in what sounds like a very bad computer system.  He also rescheduled my install to March 28th at my request.

On Saturday, I received a call from a representative confirming my install for April 4th, and wanting to know if I wanted to move my appointment to the 28th or 29th of March.  I advised her I already had done so, however she had no record of this.  Fortunately, I had both the original order number and the new order number, and she was able to determine that when I made the change to the TV service, they had not cancelled the old order.  She confirmed that my new order was for March 28th and was on track.

I went online Sunday to check the status of my install and was shocked to find that neither of my order numbers were valid, however when I searched based upon my address I received confirmation that I was scheduled for March 28th -- and the system referred to the second order number.

The technician arrived on-time on March 28th and was very friendly, knowledgable and helpful.  The install took right at 2 hours and he even cleaned up after himself.

The U-Verse TV quality is very good, but not quite as crisp as DirecTV.  It is much, much better than Comcast Digital, which I found to be smudgy and pixelated from time to time. I find the user interface to be friendly and easy to use, however I wish I could limit the online guide to just the channels I have a subscription to.  I like that the remote control responds to command instantly, as opposed to the 5 second lags I experienced with Comcast and DirecTV.

U-verse internet has been much more stable and consistent than Comcast, which tended to run slower between 5pm and midnight than other times of the day.

Overall, I am happy so far.  It sounds like AT&T has some work to be done with their internal computer system that negatively reflects on their competence and customer service.
