I think it might help people coming here again...
WINDOWS MOBILE POSSIBLE RELEASE DATES FOR THE 8525
- Q3 2007 Release Date:
- This was seen on at least one official AT&T page: (http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cel
l-phone-details/?device=AT%26T+8525&q_sku=sku97000 ...) - There is doubt about what Q3 means. Yahoo finance for AT&T lists that their fiscal year ends in DEC-31. If that is the case, then Q3 ended in the beggining of October and the release is almost a month late.
- November 2 2007 Release Date:
- I found an official link on this AT&T page offering the WM6 download, explaining that it would be available for 90 days, through JAN-31-2008: (http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter/phones-
devices/pda-windows-mobile.jsp) - The November 2nd date was calculated by another user based on the listed availability limit on the page.
- The link sent you to HTC America's support page and only the firmware upgrade was available. A call to HTC inquiring about that met with surprise and confusion from the HTC representative.
- Whithin a day that offering was removed (I posted the message on this forum on the 25th and on the 26th the page had been edited and the Windows Mobile 6 offer was no longer listed).
- UPDATE - Another user had the presence of mind to go to that link and look at the source code for the page. The explicit offer was commented out as per request of [an AT&T] someone, but it is still there, albeit with a "do not make public until notice" warning.
- Immediate Availability:
- Two of my calls to customer support yelded a response that it was available through the Microsoft Windows Mobile official site.
- Many more users claim to have heard this same claim (the reason why I don't bother calling customer service).
- October 26th // October 30th 2007:
- Seen throughout this forum.
- Dates are based on conversations users had with customer service reps, company executives, articles read in other forums and other undocumented hearsay (no links provided -or available- to said documents, posts, articles, etc).
- UPDATE - Well, we all can see what day is today (30th) and nothing has materialized.
- FALL 2007 (Ends, in the USA, on DEC-22-2007):
- Explicitly offered for free, by HTC, on their website: (http://www.america.htc.com/products/8525/default.h
tml) - My single call to HTC (when I called to inquiry about the link from the AT&T page) yealded a response that "HTC has nothing to do with the upgrade, I have to speak to AT&T". I did not force the issue.
Question:
- Have any of the people who had posted the 30th as a release date based on conversations with CSRs and executives been able to contact those people again to ask them what happened?
I hope this helps.

And those interested in the Palm Treo 750's site can find it here. There may be an option to setup an RSS feed, so for those interested in subscribing to a notification system, check it out.Although these might be the physical locations of the download, the formal launch locations, as well as the launch dates, have yet to be announced.
Are you sure about the blackjack link? The current rebranding update can only be found by going to the FAQ. I never understood why that wasn't in the download center myself.

Well, I just emailed my source and will update the forums when I have a response. Hopefully, it's still slated for sometime today and just hasn't been posted.

I couldn't find any direct source for thsi question, but another user in this forum explained his need for WM6 as the ability to use a 16GB card he had purchased.
Mikey717 wrote:Question for anyone who might have an answer to this. I know that WM5 on the 8525 will only recognize up to a 2GB MicroSD card. Anyone know what the limit will be for WM6?

LOL! The "Pass The Hot Potato" game just got a 3rd player! Now people who call one of the companies (AT&T, HTC and Microsoft) will be told that the fault lies on at least two other places!!

Hi, well I called Business Customer Care today and the lady actually contacted "Advance Networking" and spoke to them about 8525 WM6 update, and they said the update is ready but when the update is applied to the device sometime it works and sometime it "Bricks" the dervice and I am pretty sure you guys dont want that, so they (AT&T) contacted microsoft to resolve this issue and they are waiting on microsoft to release an update to fix the "Brick Issue" so they can release the WM6 update and that is whats causing a big delay "MICROSOFT." I know its lame of AT&T not actually telling everyone the real reason unless you actually call them and ask them you know "HOW" but yah thats the problem.
But, on a brighter note, there are enough people to play "rock, paper, scissors". Perhaps they can duke it out until someone looses and has to take responsibility?!

This whole thing makes me think of that.

I have problems with the idea that AT&T would keep delaying the release of WM6 because of bugs and they want to make sure they get it right before releasing it. If that were the case these forums would have a lot fewer posts. The Tilt has only been out a few weeks and look at all the posts. If there are so many problems with WM6 for the 8525, why are there so many people successfully using bootleg and cooked roms for the past several months? (Literally hundreds, if not thousands.) There are a lot of Microsoft builds of WM6. Why is WM6 working fine on so many other devices? If there is a brick problem, it seems to me that it would lie in some sort of AT&T specific bloatware. And why doesn't somebody officially come out and just say something in the light of so much interest? Just doesn't make sense to me.
