HTC One X Locked Bootloader
05-04-2012 08:59:29 PM
Hello -
I'd like to know why AT&T has chosen to not allow HTC to unlock the bootloader of the HTC One X via their website tool at htcdev.com.
HTC has pleged to allow unlocking on all their devices - and the Rogers phone is unlockable. Why isn't the AT&T version able to be unlocked?
If I cannot unlock the phone, I'll be sending it back and moving to Verizon rather than upgrading my contract and signing up for another two years.

best bey - go for it, switch to verizon, or better yet purcahse a non-branded version of the phone. Best chances are you will not get it from ATT

Is that really the AT&T answer? Don't renew my contract for another two years? Switch to a competitor?
Really?
It's an answer, but it seems like one that no reasonable company would like to give.
That is not an AT&T answer, it's an answer by another AT&T customer, based on years of experience with them. While wingrider and I don't always see eye to eye I completely agree with him here — it is very unlikely that AT&T will help you unlock the bootloader on the phone since they went to such great lengths to prevent it from being unlocked.
So yes, if you're dead set on getting the One X, don't get the AT&T version. You can also watch this discussion and buy the phone when a solution is available.
Personally, I haven't used an AT&T branded phone since 2004 and can't be happier.

the majority of companes are not reasonable, this is not a ATT answer, this is a answer given from decades of expierence in the business world and in dealing with companies outside of the one I own. No way shape or form do I work for att, this is a peer to peer forum outside of a few people we are all peers.

this is just completely absurd. UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER! when i pick up the HTC One X tomorrow, you have given me 14 days to return the phone and get my money back. well, im giving YOU 14 days to unlock the bootloader, or you will lose my business entirely. and with the amount i pay you people on a monthly basis, i imagine your business model will be dramatically impacted if i walk. its simple, just unlock the bootloader.

you must be getting it from a franchise dealer, micght want to check there requirements for returning a phone before you do anything.. To be honest if you are expecting the policy to change then don;t even bother togo pick up the phone, you will just be returning it. Sorry threats don;t work atr all, doubt their business model will be impacted at all

Unlock the bootloader, keep customers make money. Good plan?
If they thought it was a good plan it would have already been done. You could always pay full retail for a unbranded model if you want it unlocked

Hi,
If you think Verizon is better GOOD LUCK they do not even support updating the Nexus they sell from Google. So ya think they are better and far more expensive. They seem nice as to customer service and it is all just making someone feel nice. All corps are out for their best interest.
I can say so far with ATT I have had much better luck in solving issues.
PS. On the go solutions has the OneX unlocked so GOOD LUCK.

Somehow we need to force At&t to stop this crappy practice.
The business get impacted by the reputation. I helped to make sure AT&T did not buy T-mobile. I am glad I did and so many.
I dont trust AT&T. Fighting for a phone is not as big as the merge but still we won. Whenever any adquisition or merge is up for public opinion I will vote NO.

HTC One X great phone, but has a controlling network. That's a bad combination. I know now. I refuse to do this again.

With HTC/Android devices you have soo many options to play with, check them out over at XDA, you can turn the device from something you hate to something of beauty in your eyes. http://www.xda-developers.com/tag/htc-one-x/

AT&T's return policy has changed effective 10/07/12. You have 14 days to return the device & cxl without a ETF. Policy info HERE.

Haven't bought a branded device since 2002 or 2004, can't remember now -- been so long
Couldn't be happier.

lot of people do that, but then again a lot of people blak at paying full retail price for a phone, htye demand the subsidized prices and expect full access and no "bloatware" for their pennies on the dollar phone

Yes, they want to eat their cake and have it too... nothing can be done about it. However, I feel for the people who pay full retail on an AT&T branded device and find themselves in the same predicament.
