How to deal with billing on internet promotions
[ Edited ]

Going promo is: get any speed you want for ~$14.95 for a year.

(or highest of 6Mbt for $19.95)

You are promised it in a way of credits back to your account within two billing cycles.

You do not get it and call in billing cycle 3. You are assured it's gonna be dealt with.

Billing cycle 4 you call, because nothing happened. You still are billed at full price of ~$50 or more. You are told it happens sometime and will be corrected. If you are NOT stupid enough not to ask for written confirmation or a credit right away you usually "get disconnected". As a variation they "transfer" your call during which you "get disconnected"

Mind you, every time you call you spend huge amount of time waiting to get connected. Sometimes it's just "high volume of calls. Call later"

Creative type may try live chat. Then you'd find out that after spending 10-15 minutes on verification and description of your problem they reveal, that you must call to get this resolved.

I am writing all this to try to save you hours of waiting on hold, some nerve cells waisted in frustration and money, that you THOUGHT you are saving. If you were unlucky enough to bite on those - admit to yourself ASAP you stepped in it and RUN. Call and disconnectquickly. Go with cable, another company, whatever. Otherwise you will be spending time on hold EVERY month to demand the credit. It doesn't at all mean you getting any!

From the time when local Bell(South) merged (or got swallowed) by AT&T those billing issues went from occasional delay to>delayed corrections to > repeated problems to > plain stalling (or is it full scale cheating?)

I read dozens of exact same stories, I've seen same and modified scams with friends/relatives.

Of cause, I must admit:

there are a few resolved cases. But are you ready to waist HOURS on the phone EVERY month to get your promised bucks?

As well as my connection gets red light every other day; speed feels substantially slower despite same/comparable with cable numbers on promised speeds.

I do not even remember of any issues with previous provider. Now I do not remember WHEN I had no issues with AT&T six month I switched...

[Per Guidelines:  Keep it Relevant and Appropriate].
