Wi-Fi Help!!!

My fiance and I just switched from Verizon. Right now I am regretting it terribly since the phone I got was an epic fail. My fiance though, she got the Torch and really likes it, however I am not too impressed by it either. It seems like the wireless doesnt work?

Now I am brand new to ATT and it's phone systems so i am tacking up most of my complete disappointment with ATT to this so far, however something like wireless SHOULDN'T be different between companies. Now i don't know specs and such like that with the Droid Incredible I had, but I would be at home, turn on wireless, and be downloading and browsing the internet and watching videos almost as quickly as my laptop. Without wireless turned on it still ran pretty smoothly, but would really depend on how much signal I was getting.

Now i was toying around with my fiance's Torch and set-up wireless for her. I turn it on, it says it is connected to our wireless connection, and I bring up the browser, type in www.google.com... 10 effin minutes later the page comes up...I think we can all agree the google homepage that only has the image of Google on, a field for you to type in, and two buttons so not an intense website to load. So thinking MAYBE it was because wireless AND the 3g was on (and the reception was only 2 bars) I turned off the 3G connection and went to try again. This time I got told that I need to connect to a wireless connection or turn back on the 3G to go online...the wireless connection at the top was at max and said it was connected to our connection....

So I really need to know wth is going on. Shouldn't wireless be just as good on an ATT phone as it was on a Verizon phone? Why can wireless not work if the 3G is turned off? I really need some clarity on this because it's almost to the point that I am going to call ATT up and just tell them we are going to go back to Verizon. I really want to like ATT because I would save so much money, but I also want phones that reliably work and so far, 1 day in, and I have two phones on my hands; 1 that cannot use wireless apparently and another phone (Flip-Out) that can't do ANYTHING.
