Smartphones typically use more data than feature phones/QMDs. They have more robust browsers, more advanced email clients, and better media capabilities. AT&T doesn't have to explain anything. They retired the unlimited smartphone-class plan, but at least for the moment kept the unlimited plan on feature phones/QMDs.
