New BB Bold software?

Got an email from RIM that there was a new software version for my BlackBerry.  I went to http://www.blackberry.com/update and did the upgrade.  I haven't noticed a difference so far.

Version # is v4.6.0.167 (Platform 4.0.0.217)

What's new in this new version?

I'd like to know this too.

Hopefull it addresses the constant switching from 2g to 3g all of the time, and the poor battery life that I get.

Re: New BB Bold software?

There is no list of the actual bug fixes/updates that I can find. But here is what I experienced so far.

Before update my Bold would crash when using Stereo Bluetooth with media player, and when using AT&T Navigator for prolonged periods

After Update: I have been running more than 24 hours with no crashes!

Faster response and load times (hardly ever get the annoying BB loading icon)

Better signal

I am not sure about the 3G/2G switch because this has never been a problem for me.

Odd, I have received no such email from RIM, I have owned this Bold since December of 08 and have had no updates offered. Device came with .167 - I can find no such software update on the RIM site either. The desktop manager can find no such update as well - do yo have a link?

I did not have to reinstall anything. Desktop manager backed up my phone.

I forgot to mention the web browser loads faster now compared to an un-upgraded bold at the at&t store.

Re: New BB Bold software?

Thanks, I found it right after my post. Installed and now will see if there is much difference. First thing I noticed; there is more application memory than previous. We'll see about the memory leak, which was pretty severe on my device. After a battery pull, it would start out at 18mb and within 6 hours be down to 8mb. I got into the habbit of doing a battery pull every morning. After this update it started out at 28mb - a good sign.

Update went smoothly.

Re: New BB Bold software?
I have had the Bold since launch and started having data issues like crazy around january. I waited for an at&t update patiently and I can say after using this new os for a week that it is the real deal. No more bis network drops on 3G and it holds 3G voice for dear life now. I am on a fringe area for 3G but get full signal edge all the time. Around the first of the year they upgraded the tower near my house to 3G but in the Atlanta area it is 1900 band so in house coverage was brutal. My Bold would switch from 3G with bis to edge to EDGE to 3G with no bis. I would go hours with no email unless I used data and it would instantly drop the bis logo again with no email. With the new os all of these problems are gone. It's my understanding that the platform is the radio portion of the Bold and that is what was updated. Also there was some talk a while back that at&t were going to give iphone and bold users preferential treatment on the 3G data network because of all the issues we were having. I'm here to let all know that this update works!

Heads up Mac Users - no can do
Just as a heads up -- you can not do this upgrade if you own a Mac, as it requires Desktop Manager for PC.

Can you upgrade the OS if you're running Boot Camp?

Yes. You can only download windows software for the upgrade, but you can do that under bootcamp.
