What is a "dry loop internet account" ?? I've never heard of that one before. Thanks for the compliments, but everybody here is pretty patient. I'm probably the least patient lol =)
Agatha Christie...don't really need to research that game to know that its probably a low-req game lol. Stuff like that can run on anything. If you really, and I mean really really want a rock-solid system then go with something from Apple. Not so great for gaming (i guess..) but those things don't break. They're the mercedes of the computer world
Aside from that, a good place for you to do some research might be http://pcworld.com
Do you know if you're comfortable with spending that kind of money at an online store? Personally I prefer buying from a brick and mortar store; I just feel more comfortable when spending that kind of money. It's just easier if stuff goes sour to deal with people face to face rather than over a phone and through the mail.
Let us know if you have a preference, and your budget I guess if you want people here to post their picks for you.
edit...stay away from 64-bit operating systems...expensive stuff you don't need. AMD quad-core doesn't have the same performance as intel quadcore (referencing amd phenom right?) but unless you're interesting in bleeding-edge stuff, then the cost savings associated with AMD might be in your interest. I went to HP's website a few mins ago and noticed that they are highly configurable, kinda miffed that they don't include a monitor in the cost...if you've got one already though then it doesn't matter (unless you're going to keep your compaq around)
About that, Compaq used to be its own company, and it used to be very good. Major government supplier back in its heyday along with Toshiba. Then something bad happened with that company and all of their stuff started breaking all the time, like gateway lol. HP bought Compaq, HP used to have problems of its own too I believe but they've really come around. We have an HP Pavillion in our house and its a pretty rock-solid computer, as good as the one that I built. (albeit cheaper since it was free )
