Keeping att.net email address

I soon will have to terminate my ATT uverse service and am interested in keeping my att.net email address for both my primary and 4 subaccounts. Is there a way to do this?

I keep reading that if transferred to yahoo I can maintain them at no charge but cannot seem to find a way to do this even though I can access them through the yahoo websites, the account management process always takes me back to an ATT site.

Has anyone done this conversion successfully?

thx

Call TS and talk to a csr about this.  They should be able to help you.  Use the phone number in my sig.

Re: Keeping att.net email address

It has been stated by ATT that you will keep the email addresses as long as you want them. :smileywink:

Call back and speak to another csr.  I bet you are told something different.  It has been posted by people who have cancelled thier UV services, that they were able to keep their att.net email accounts.  I also suggest that Monday you call and speak to a CS rep instead of a TS rep.

This from the Uverse HSI terms:

When you cancel your service, your account ID e-mail address will remain active, as will all e-mail subaccounts you have created. The e-mail accounts may be accessed from the att.net website.

Re: Keeping att.net email address

Well...so far no one at the ATT Uverse CS or TS knows how to handle this issue... Have received many different versions of no it cant be done..will expire...you will be given a conversion option to yahoo.com.

I have read the TOS and in them it states that the acoounts will be kept active..so I guess I cross my fingers and hope for the best..

"When you cancel your service, your account ID e-mail address will remain active, as will all e-mail subaccounts you have created. The e-mail accounts may be accessed from the att.net website."

We shall see......... (said the blind man)

Re: Keeping att.net email address

This is related to all those with legacy email addresses, like prodigy.net, snet.net, sbcglobal.net, pacbell.net, flashnet.net, and all others related to providers that SBC and then ATT acquired.  In all these cases, at least in the last several months, anyone leaving AT&T U-Verse can keep their legacy email address and sub-accounts which will automatically be converted to free Yahoo accounts.

Your email access, if done via a web browser, will hardly look any different if at all. However if you access your email with a client such as Thunderbird or Outlook Express, I'm not sure exactly how this will affect you.

I have been out of U-Verse for almost a month with a prodigy.net address and continue to use it seamlessly.

Re: Keeping att.net email address

After searching online, I see that there is a way to transfer my $7.95 email service (which give me POP and SMTP) to the free att.net email service.

Called at&t billing support at 866-588-6573 and they asked me to call the free att.net support service at 800-288-2020.  After chatting with free att.net support, they said I would have to cancel the service and there is a grace period of 60 days; then I have the opportunity to convert it to the free service.  I would have to call the the billing and sales support number at 800-222-0300.  I did and received the same support person I originally called.  They then put me on hold and said it cannot be done.  Why didn't that person tell me if the first place instead of making me call other departments?

Please help me.

johnnyjohnny - 20 minute solution - Open a free gmail account. From gmail download all your current stuff in your current account. Cancel your current account. You perhaps could set your current account to forward any new mail to gmail until it is canceled.

Re: Keeping att.net email address

Call the email support number – 866-435-3264 and tell them you want to cancel email support ($7.95/month charge) and retain your att.net email id's.

The email id's will transfer to the open portal (yahoo.com) and you'll be able to login to you att.net accounts from there. You can also login via the yahoo.att.net portal but they'll ask you to reset your password which is a hassle depending on the devices / mail packages you pull your mail from.

The support center mail give you some information about ' 30-days' etc. but your account will move to the open portal. Moved mine in March 2012.
