You can use it to extend the ethernet ports available but it's not a good idea to use it as a router. Let the RG take care of the IP address allocation and use the other device as a switch / hub to extend your ports. Either that or go wireless with the PC / laptops on the network.
Main reason is that it's not really supported. It's possible but if you have connection issues the techs won't really be able to help much your own routers connection settings. Just trying to keep it open for support so you don't get yourself mixed up.
The reason that they both can't have the wireless enabled is that they'll both try and assign IP addresses to the devices connected to the network when they can really only have one. It would be like a house with two addresses.
