Wow!  That's a lot of services.  Well....perhaps they will get lucky and interruptions will be minimal.  When I first saw the story I had visions of a head-on collision but I guess that is not the case.....just close enough to cause interference.

 

27 years ago we had a 12 ft. satellite dish in our backyard....with a Drake receiver and stereo sound capability.  I felt a bit like a pioneer.  I watched the first space shuttle disaster live on the old NASA channel......and we used to be able to watch major sports events with full stereo sound crowd noise....MINUS the play-by-play announcers.  We did not have cable service available to us at the time so having all those satellite channels via C-band available to us was just amazing.  C-band is low enough in frequency that moisture absorption was not a factor to contend with so stormy weather was no problem for reception.  THEN came the scrambling war and the end was predictable.  By the way that Drake receiver had an RF remote that was powerful enough to function from anywhere in the house with no problems.  No DVR however.  Just good old VCR.
