Gas jumped from $2.96 to $3.05 at every station in town in the middle of the day. Even the cheap stations were charging what the big name brand stations were charging.
I have read if gas went above $3.00 there was a good chance any improvement in the economy would stall and maybe even go back into a formal recession.
