How about mercurachrome? I remember my Grandma in Southern Illinois had this stuff for cuts and scraps. It was like glow in the dark reddish orange or orangish red. The stuff would stain your skin for days. It burned like a branding iron when applied! We would always blow on it to lessen the sting.
Q. What is mercurachrome?
A. It was a mercury-bromine compound used as a topical disinfectant of the skin and wounds. Many of us had this red liquid painted on us when we were young for skinned knees and small cuts.
It has been outlawed in the US for years, although non-mercury types are still available. Today you would use neo-sporin or similar products.
