Donald *Duck* Dunn died the other day...remember him in The Blues Bros. band from the movie?  He was 70 and on tour in Japan; died in his sleep.

Re: Lost another one

True, but some young people have a sense of history...I take note of comments about articles and people often state they weren't around when the music/film was made/popular, but liked it and that nothing today compares.  Sad, but true.

We were just talking the other day about how many groups/singers from the '90's are still around...

The worst part there are not many new ones that can equal the older ones much less surpass them.

Well think how old I feel.  I've never heard of most of these people that everyone else says were big stars.  My kind of music has always been classical and jazz.  By the way....jazz is a long way from dead.  It's very popular here in the Kansas City area.  Got a young grandson in high school who plays trombone and he is quite active in both school jazz band and in amateur jazz groups in the area.  It is truly amazing to hear a 16 yr. old kid play that well so early in his life.  He's into classical also.  But....as is typical with a lot of these musical kids....when he listens on his iPhone or iPod he is listening to whatever  that junk they call music these days.  He also plays the piano and has done a little composing.  Also is a straight A student.  Surely does NOT get his brains from his paternal grandpa.:smileywink:  Must be inherited from his grandmother.

Re: Lost another one

I think if you're a music buff, you like a little bit of everything--there are only 2 types I don't listen to. :smileywink:  I like some Jazz, but more of a Ragtime fan.  My parents always liked music and it was playing somewhere most of the time.  My dad was hip and even liked modern artists, so I guess that's where I get my varied interests.  A lot of music I like was around way before I was born.

I wish more young people would listen to music from the past, if nothing else, to get a sense of where music started. :smileysad:
