More than One T.V.

Hey guys, just had a quick question about U-Verse, is there any extra charge to install the Television part of the package on a seperate T.V. in the house?

I've cheked all over the site and came up with nothing.

Thanks in advance :smileyhappy:

Re: More than One T.V.

Whada you mean by extra? I mena just if there a fee for installation and the extra components to get the signal, etc., just so everyone knows, the Tv is just in the next room.

One more quick question while i'm here too...

I read that the digital signal is made through the internet connection, is this done with a wire or wireless? Just because the TV's are relativley far away from the computer...

When you subscribe to U-verse the techs will install the Residential Gateway.....usually near your computer if you have one....and  a single set top box....an HD DVR which is included in the price of the service.  You choose which TV in your house that you want it hooked to.  If you want more set top boxes for more TV sets in other rooms the extra boxes cost $5 each per month.  All boxes are HD capable....but the HD service is $10 per month....which you would not have to pay if you don't need HD and don't subscribe to it.    The television sets and their STB's are all connected to U-verse via cable.  The residential gateway has wireless capability for any broadband wireless computer connections you might desire.   There is no fee for normal installation of your equipment and hooking it up to your TV's and computer.

I believe I'm correct in all this since this is how it worked for us.

Does this answer your questions?

Oh yes......welcome to the forum.

Re: More than One T.V.

Great thanks, now I know it's just an extra 5 for having another reciver for another TV. So the reciver on the TV can be read wirelessly from my computer? If that last thing is the case, then yes, all my questions have been answered.

You've been very helpful.

by receiver you mean set top box it can't be wireless. all stb's have to be wire to the rg in one manner or another...

Re: More than One T.V.
Ok, so that means that there does have to be a wire to connect to the "top box" to get televison?

Re: More than One T.V.
Oh and just to clearify, i do know that there will be wires involved with the installation, i mean is there going to have to be a wire running from my computer to my televison which is about 30 feet away.

Re: More than One T.V.
You mean hpmsrm's post? if so, i'm still unclear about what he meant by residential gateway. I think he meant wirreless being used for an internet connection, i just need to know if a cable needs to be run from the computer area to the top box.

Re: More than One T.V.

The RG is the Residential Gateway, a combo router/gateway/firewall/wireless access point.

Your computers will be plugged into the RG (most of us put the RG near our main computers).  You can use wireless for any of your computers; if you don't have wireless cards in your computers, the installer can give you some (or USB adapters for desktops).  IF you go wireless with any computers, make sure the installer gets them up and working BEFORE he/she leaves.

Your TVs will be connected to their own STB (Set Top Box) or the 1 DVR.  Each TV must have a box with Uverse.  You can share an STB/box with another TV by stringing a length of coax, but the other TV and the one on the STB/box will have to watch the same channel (whatever the STB is tuned to).

The TVs are connected to the RG by ONE connection, usually coax for most of us.  That coax goes up into the attic (or basement if you have one) and is connected outside to your NID (the box on your house for telephone).

If you already have coax inside your walls, you shouldn't have to worry about wires all over the place.

Forgot to mention that UV TV service is NOT WIRELESS, though some Sales people give that impression.  Only computers can go wireless at this time.  However, you CAN connect a computer (usually a laptop) TO any STB/DVR (UV TV box) with a line of Ethernet cable.  If you are connected via coax, there will be a free Ethernet port on the back of the UV TV boxes.

Thanks SPD.  You stated things more clearly and more detailed than I did.

Sometimes I get too winded. :smileywink:

I look back before I got UV and I was totally confused as to how it really worked!

Re: More than One T.V.

Is there any problem with having four TVs in use at the same time?  I know you have 4 streams but not sure if you suffer picture quality with many devices on U-verse.

Does the internet count at one of the 4 streams or not?

My son is considering U-verse but has 2 SD tvs and 2 HD tvs (not all will be in use at the same time) and 2 PCs and a PS3 to wire up the best way so as to not have any congestion issues..

One more question.  He presently has coax to the stbs of Dish Network.  If that coax passes the U-verse tech testing can he use that coax for the U-verse STBs AND use the Ethernet port on them for his PCs?

Does the internet count at one of the 4 streams or not? The internet is separate from TV -- you get 4 streams plus internet.

one thing to add TexasEd reply. if the stb's are connected by coax then each one has a ethernet port on the back for a laptop or a game system...

One other thiing, they may need to change the connectors on your coax cables.  That is what they did with mine, I have all coax in my installation.
