Super Bowl Sound Issues?

Is anyone else experience a loss of primary audio on the Super Bowl broadcast on FOX HD?

About 5:00pm EST, the primary sound went out on my TV. I am, using the primary box, and the Optical Audio connector, in Surround mode. If I switch to stereo, it works, but I would obviously prefer Surround mode. I'm having people over for the game tonight, and I'm not real happy...

I have rebooted the STB, with no change.

Thanks - Dave

No problem with surround sound on the Fox affiliate here in Dallas.

No problems on the Houston FOX affiliate, either.

athens georgia- I got to see about 5 minutes of the half time show! Cool- Glad I got this UVerse! Interesting- when I do the PIP guide, the small preview is right on, but the main picture is either frozen or behind live tv

I'm having sound issues as well.  Seems to be cutting out for a split second.  Really hit hard during half time.  I'm in St. Peters, MO.

I am also in St. Louis and also had audio issues from the halftime show onwards.  Way too many split-second audio drops.

Did you try rebooting your DVR/STB?

That's interesting, but in sounds like the audio drop issue discussed in the thread found in the link below and not the issue that the OP reported in this thread.

Re: Super Bowl Sound Issues?

In St. Louis started having soudn issues at half time, was pretty bad still into the 3rd quarter, tried on/off stb and tv thought maybe it was an HDMI issue, did not help. Muted TV and went with the optical output to stereo, still a problem not as bad then slowly it completed disappeared before the end of 3rd quarter, turned sound back on TV an stereo off and everything was fine. It thinkd it  was an ATT issue as there was no issue on the SD channel. Disappointing becauase it was very annoying, had Uverse just over a month, came from Dish, I'll give ATT a year then if things are not better, back to Dish.

Consider yourself lucky that you weren't subjected to the whole thing except that Usher did drop in as a save.

Re: Super Bowl Sound Issues?

Seems like St. Louis got the worst of it. I now see this has been an issue for many years with ATT Uverse. Very dissappointing. I keep wanting to like Uverse, but the longer I am with it, the more I am finding not to like. Half time was extremely bad audio. I'll have to contact ATT support (there goes an hour of my time) and attempt to get some refund.

Re: Super Bowl Sound Issues?

I missed the first touchdown too...HD screen froze up several times (Fox 8 in Greensboro).  When I switched to regular Fox channel, it was in Spanish!  Fortunately everything was resolved pretty quickly.

Re: Super Bowl Sound Issues?

I did not reboot because I had a group of 20 people watching.  I checked the recording later on another TV... it was not the same dropouts as previously experienced.    I don't usually hear the dropouts on my TV with no surround sound, but I did for this issue.   Also talked to some people at work, and someone that was watching on directv heard the sound issues, too.  What is weird is that our local Fox network went to the SD feed right before half time, I wonder if they were having feed problems from the network.  (I had an antenna feed on during the game, and that feed also when to SD for about 5 mins at same time).   Very odd.

Sounds like the issue was with your local Fox affiliate and not AT&T.  I have seen the same thing on one of my local stations using an OTA antenna where the HD broadcast switched to an SD broadcast for several minutes and then back to HD.

Re: Super Bowl Sound Issues?

I had no audio drops at all during the entire broadcast, including the half time show, when a 15-minute drop would have been entirely welcome.

Re: Super Bowl Sound Issues?

This was not a U-verse problem.  There were a lot of people on Twitter complaining about the freeze and audio drop issues during the Superbowl, especially during the half time show.  I think it was a Fox issue.

I saw no freezes, and though the audio levels were mangled, I could hear every note, unfortunately. There were lots of technical issues during the performance, including some of the lights in the LOVE stage not being illuminated. I'm surprised U-verse wasn't blamed for that as well.

The Fox sound worked fine in the Central Ohio market and I was delighted there were not any 5.1 audio drops through my HTS.

Re: Super Bowl Sound Issues?

For me the only audio issues I experienced were caused by the microphone levels for the vocal performers during half time.  The instruments were clear the whole time, but the vocals came and went.  It was first noticable when Fergie started singing for the first time... it took 2 or 3 seconds before her mike was turned up enough to hear it.

On the other hand, this might not have been so much an issue as a blessing in disguise.

Anyway, this was obviously a local production issue and had little or nothing to do with Fox or U-verse.

I can attest to the sound issues in Cowboy Stadium, I had my college graduation there and I couldn't hear a thing going on during the commencement.    From what I understand going to a concert at the stadium is not the best experience either.  It may be fine for a football game but for a concert, not so much. Even still, bad mics and lighting issues with the stage, a much better halftime show than those old geezers who performed last year.  Keith Richards needs to hang up his microphone and stop while people still remember when the Who was good.

Just off the top of my head, I'm thinking Keith was on the year before last.  Last year was The Who, but you comment was quite accurate anyway: Pete Townsend was awful; Roger Daltry only marginally better.  The Rolling Stones performance (where you would have seen Mr. Richards) was considerably better than The Who's.

Now I'm having an old timers momemnt.  You are correct.  It was Pete Townsend.  However IMO the half time shows for the past several years haven't been that great.  04 was the last halftime show that really had any energy and it was because of the "costume malfunction" that the shows started going to past their prime groups.  I'm glad that they got a band that was relevant in this decades music scene for the half time show.

Maybe the idea is that if a wardrobe malfunction occurs on someone that old, it just won't be an issue. :smileyvery-happy:
