Fox Sports San Diego 2012 for Padres games

An agreement with FSN for Padres baseball coming soon for a new network call Fox Sports San Diego in 2012.  Here is the link:  http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/sep/01/padres-have-agreement-principle-fsn/

Thats great for those out there, but unless UV adds the MLB EI package, none of us will be able to watch.

It's big news for fans in San Diego, since they weren't able to watch their local team at all. The local cable company had an exclusive contract with the Padres and withheld the games from other providers. That's now come to an end.

Re: Fox Sports San Diego 2012 for Padres games

I wonder if they'll come to the same agreement with other MLB teams? I don't care about MLB EI, I just want to see my Braves! I just got U-verse installed yesterday and wsa irate when I couldn't find them last night.  When researching U-verse, I looked at the channel lists and saw FSS and Sports South. It never occurred to me that a provider could pick and choose what was shown on those channels. :-(

Providers don't "pick and choose", FSS has blacked out some of the games in the Atlanta viewing area for providers that didn't pay the ransom.  Fox Sports has pulled this stunt several times over the past couple of years. Demanding more money after they have a contract in place.  A couple of  years ago it was FSMW and the St. Louis Blues, this year it's FSSW and the St. Louis Cardinals and FSS and the Atlanta Braves.

I believe you mean FSMW and St. Louis. FSSW has Dallas and Houston teams.

You are correct.  Just mistyped. Was actually watching FSSW when I was typing the response.

Fox Sports San Diego will be the network, apparently. Will U-verse charge extra for it? (insert sarcasm here)

You're local RSN should not have an additional charge.  Those that are out of market wouldn't be able to see the games on there.

Here's the latest rumors on FS San Diego.  Still no official announcement from Fox or the Padres, but Cox cable has put out a notice that the channel will be added to its lineup around March 5.  No word on whether any other providers will carry it.

Here's the latest on FSSD. Surprise surprise--Uverse doesn't have a carriage agreement in place yet.

Hopefully they get an agreement in place before the start of the season so we'll be able to finally watch Padres baseball on Uverse!!

Re: Fox Sports San Diego 2012 for Padres games

I just read that same article from the NC Times and was going to post.  How in the world have they not agreed yet?? it's practically mid-March.  I've had Uverse since Aug 2007.  That is 4+ seasons of Padres baseball that I haven't been able to watch.  Hey, AT&T, sign the agreement!  if not, I'm out.

According to the article, it looks like only DirecTV and Cox already have agreements in place.

Well, Time Warner has also not come to an agreement yet. TWC has a larger share of the San Diego TV market than U-verse.

maybe the final piece of the puzzle that AT&T has been waiting for? I'm hoping for an announcement very soon.

FOX Sports San Diego will be available to the following TV providers by March 17th for the first Padres spring training game. If your TV provider is not listed, please contact them to request FOX Sports San Diego on your channel line-up. ~~ OK, so please consider this a request!

Just one more post to AT&T to please get this channel.  I'd hate to switch back to Cox (or Time Warner, assuming they get FSSD) but I probably will if AT&T doesn't broadcast the Padres.

You can get AT&T U-verse, Cox Cable and Time Warner Cable all at your residence?

Yeah - one of the few places in San Diego that apparently has overlapping coverage (4S Ranch).  Maybe because it's a newer community?  I guess it's good to have choices - just hope that AT&T picks up the new channel.

Confirm that 4S is one of the few areas where overlap exists.

First game for Padres broadcast team is Saturday.  Mud, Enberg, and Andy will be on board. I hope U-verse is.

Re: Fox Sports San Diego 2012 for Padres games

It's interesting that ATT U-Verse would take Cox to court to obtain Padre baseball and not come to terms last year with Cox to carry it and now are not on the short list to carry FS San Diego.  I only have access to a perverted form of DISH network and U-Verse and I live downtown just blocks away from the ballpark.  I switched over to U-Verse last year in hopes that they would come to an agreement with Cox.  They didn't and I ended up having to mask my location on my computer just so I could get the games over the internet.

If U-Verse doesn't carry the Padres this year, I'll go back to crappy DISH on principle.  If you want any significant portion of the San Diego market, you better get the FS San Diego Channel.

Dish Network has also not signed an agreement to carry the new channel . The principle thing makes no sense.

Hey now TexasGuy37. I am happy with U-verse at 1.5 months. For me, having the Padres is a must and I feel confident enough that U-verse will carry. It is frustrating that MLB has really dragged their heels on the TV contract. First game, preseason style is Saturday.

Re: Fox Sports San Diego 2012 for Padres games

I'm in the same boat.  While happy with AT&T now (had to go through 3 HD DVRs before I got a solid one), I switched last year (from Time Warner) on the assumption that U-Verse would cover the Padres.  If AT&T doesn't pick up FSSD, I will definitely switch back after my current agreement expires.  I'd be shocked if they didn't pick up FSSD, though - seems like a no-brainer.

Yes - only Cox and DirecTV have signed on.  I guess you're saying that in response to me saying I will "switch back" to Time Warner.  Sorry for the confusion - I will switch to Cox as I am lucky enough to have the option of both in my area.  As with AT&T, I'd be surprised if Time Warner didn't join up as well - particularly so because their customers already had access to the Padres under the previous Cox agreement.
