AT&T is a "shareholder" in DirecTV. I put that in quotes because they'll tell you they have nothing to do with DirecTV, but if you look carefully, you can see a different picture.
Keep in mind that DirecTV has to pay News Corp for the FSN content they broadcast. It gets a little complicated in the back and forth, but DirecTV has to act as a programming provider, so they raise prices as well to carriers. It's not really in their best interest to alienate AT&T, as their ROOT channels pretty much survive off the local cable carriage, and not a real national-style audience, outside of Uverse, FiOS, and Dish (besides themselves).
I don't think they'll be going anywhere, all things considered.
